Sherri Saum (Lena Adams Foster) was pregnant in real life with twin boys around the same time that her character was pregnant on the show. However, the writers have stated that they did not write in the pregnancy due to Saum's real-life condition and that they had planned for that storyline previously.
In an interview on The Fosters' set, Cierra Ramirez stated that her most prized possession was a blanket that she had had since she was a little girl that she called her "night night." In S01E09, while Mariana and Jesus are going through boxes of items from when they were younger, Jesus pulls out a blanket that Mariana states is her "night night."
On January 3, 2018, Freeform announced that The Fosters was ending after five seasons. The series is set to conclude with a three-episode finale event to air summer 2018. The finale will also act as an introduction to a spinoff-series starring Cierra Ramirez and Maia Mitchell. The show will start with a thirteen-episode first season and will be set a few years in the future and follow "Callie and Mariana, as they embark on the next phase of their young adult lives.
In the beginning of the series Aiden is in the show for no more than a few minutes but his name is mention a few times throughout the show. He returns later in season 4 as a member of the robotics team with Emma, Mariana, and Jesus
When Callie runs away and ditches Wyatt, she tries to get a job at a diner. She tells the owner of the diner that she lives on Lismore Street. Maia Mitchell, who plays Callie, is from Lismore, Australia.
Jude (Hayden Byerly) was originally intended to go down a trangender path - which was slightly hinted at in the pilot, when his sister Callie (Maia Mitchell) informs Brandon (David Lambert) that she was sent to juvie after she took a baseball bat to her foster-father's vehicle in an effort to stop him from beating Jude for wearing his ex-wife's dress. However, transgender stories would be explored in a different area of the show, and instead, Jude's character would explore his sexuality and sexual prefrence once he came out as gay in season 2.
Noah Centineo originally audtioned for Brandon Foster, but the role would go to David Lambert. Jake T. Austin's character Jesus Adams-Foster would later be recasted in season 3, and Noah Centineo would take his place.
Throughout the first part of season 3(through episode 10) the part of the theme song with a hand falling off the bed doesn't say Jake T Austin or Noah Centineo. There is no name because this was the auditioning period for the new Jesus after Jake was removed from the show.
