Storyline

ALTERED CARBON is set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness "re-sleeved" into new bodies. The story follows specially trained "Envoy" soldier Takeshi Kovacs, who is downloaded from an off-world prison and into a combat ready sleeve at the behest of Laurens Bancroft, a highly influential aristocrat. Bancroft was killed, and the last automatic backup of his stack was made hours before his death, leaving him with no memory of who killed him and why. While police ruled it a suicide, Bancroft is convinced he was murdered and wants Kovacs to find out the truth.

Trivia

Joel Kinnaman's physique was used as one of the focal points to market the show as it was getting a lot of attention in the media. Kinnaman underwent a dramatic physical transformation for the role to acquire an extremely bulked up and shredded physique with highly-defined six pack abs which he showed off in countless shirtless scenes. All stills, trailers and clips released for the show included multiple shots of Kinnaman's shirtless physique and Kinnaman spoke at length about his workout regime during every interview to promote the show. To further capitalize on Kinnaman's physique, on 21st February 2018, the show's social media accounts released a highly-shared promotional video titled "Cyber Hunks" that was a montage of all Kinnaman's shirtless scenes including close-up shots of his abs flexing as well as a nude shot. Kinnaman had previously stated that he had no objections to taking off his clothes and in-fact was extremely proud to show off his best ever physique. See more »

Goofs

In the opening credits of season 2, it says 'based on the book by Richard K Morgan', and the only other clue to hang this on is that the production is called Altered Carbon; however, season 2 is actually based on an amalgam of the books entitled Broken Angels and Woken Furies, respectively, and does not cover any material described in the book entitled Altered Carbon. Thanks Netflix for ruining a good show with mediocre season 2
29 February 2020 | by anilnoirdSee all my reviews

Honestly, season 2 feels like I am watching a cliche sci-fi show without any noir/ detective/ dark feels. These are the things that made season 1 great and you guys completely removed them in the followup. Please don't make season 3 if you are going to make it like season 2.
