Storyline

The year is 2022, and gamers have lined up on launch day for Sword Art Online, a hotly-anticipated MMORPG that lets players connect to an immersive virtual reality world with special helmets called Nerve Gear. Kirito is one such gamer who's eager to jump back into action, having spent a great deal of time as a beta tester, and quickly becomes friends with newbie warrior Klein. But soon, Sword Art Online's 10,000 players discover that not only are they unable to log out, the only way they can return to their physical bodies is by beating the 100-level tower's final boss - death in the game means death in the real world. Now, with no one else to turn to, Kirito and the other participants must survive the game as best they can. Written by Anonymous

Flawed, but Epic
24 January 2015 | by LethalPotatoSee all my reviews

When I watch a movie or a TV-series, the most important thing to me is that I am entertained.

This is what Sword Art Online does exceptionally well. The show starts up with our main character Kazuto, who has just bought the newest mmorpg on the market, called Sword Art Online. The main selling point of the game is that it has unbelievably realistic virtual reality. The game seems like a lot of fun for all the players, including our main character, but as people try to find the log out button in the main menus, they realize something. The log out button doesn't exist.

The show has it's fair share of flaws and some of the plot twists are never explained, but when Sword Art Online does something right, it does it really right. The animation is colorful and smooth, the action scenes are intense, and the soundtrack is more epic and fantastic than anything I've ever heard before. But what SAO really amazed me with was the Boss Battles. Every episode with a Boss Battle took my breath away and made my jaw drop.

If you are looking for a smart show with brain-twisting plot twists and smart dialog, skip SAO. If you are looking for some epic eye-candy that will make your ears orgasm of the soundtrack, then look no further, SAO will be perfect for you.
