Film Critics Pick the Most Underrated Movies of 2017 — IndieWire Critics Survey
Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: What is the most overlooked and/or underrated movie of 2017?

E. Oliver Whitney,, @cinemabite

Despite the critical praise, “A Fantastic Woman” only a one-week qualifying run last month, and I worry is it’ll easily be forgotten this awards season. Daniela Vega gives one of the most astounding performances I’ve seen this year, one that comes from somewhere fierce and internal, portraying the life and struggle of a trans woman that cinema has rarely shown an interest in exploring. But since you can’t see it until it has a proper release in Febraury, do check one of the year’s other

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Ryan Phillippe to Romance Gina in One-Hour Finale

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Ryan Phillippe to Romance Gina in One-Hour Finale
Does Gina Linetti’s new man have cruel intentions?

Ryan Phillippe is set to guest-star on Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Milton, a potential love interest for Captain Holt’s recently injured assistant, TVLine has learned. Per Fox, Charles is completely opposed to the match — but if Gina can survive getting hit by a bus, surely she can put up with her step-brother’s disapproval. Phillippe will appear in the first half of the comedy’s two-part, one-hour season finale.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Spring Premiere: Did Gina Survive? Plus: Ep Dishes On Jake and Amy's Future, Terry's [Spoiler]
The following contains spoilers from Tuesday’s midseason premiere of Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Proceed at your own peril.

Spoiler alert: Gina Linetti is dead.

Well, she was dead. It was for two minutes, during which time she saw an ethnically ambiguous female God, then was resuscitated, having somehow survived that bus accident just two months ago.

But the heck with trying to make sense of any of that. “Gina Linetti’s back, baby,” and the Nine-Nine has nothing to worry about now… right?

GBH – DVD Review

  • HeyUGuys
Damien (Nick Nevern) is a London policeman, having joined the force from a difficult upbringing. In his spare time he is a borderline football hooligan and while on duty he frequently disregards proper rules to either get a friend’s charges lifted or put the boot in on a suspect who he doesn’t like. As tensions in London build towards the riots of summer 2011, Damien tries to keep his building rage under control while trying to establish a relationship with Louise (Kellie Shirley) a new police officer he has been partnered with.

Director Simon Phillips has previously worked as an actor and producer but seems determined to continue to stretch himself, taking his bow behind the lens for this workmanlike and unexceptional, but otherwise commendable film about a man with one foot in each of two very different worlds.

Nick Nevern was passable as the lead in the similarly

Exclusive Stills From Crime-Thriller ‘Riot’ Now Renamed ‘GBH’

British actor and producer Simon Phillips makes his directorial debut with crime-thriller Riot, now looking at a title change to GBH – the reason being the release coming so close to the anniversary of last year’s London riots. Those behind-the-scenes are reluctant to appear insensitive or to be perhaps cashing in on the controversial events. Producer Jonathan Sothcott told Thn:

Simon (Phillips) had the idea for the story after witnessing last year’s riots in West London and ‘Riot’ seemed like a logical ‘does what it says on the tin’ title but as film-makers, even film-makers who make exploitation pictures, we feel that we have a responsibility not to give a film a title that could easily be construed as ‘cashing in’ on those awful few days last year. GBH, as it is now known, is a serious and thoughtful picture, not a hoodie exploitation movie and we think this

A conversation with Paul Tanter, writer-director of The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan

Paul Tanter, the writer/producer/director behind the Jack Says trilogy and new film The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan, talks to Flickering Myth’s Luke Graham about breaking into the industry, making movies and violence in films...

Luke Graham: Hi Paul, thanks for agreeing to answer a few questions. I saw The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan a few days ago and I really enjoyed it, it was great! Can I first ask, how did you break into making films and what is your background?

Paul Tanter: Many years ago, Rita Ramnani was attached to a film in pre-production, and the script needed some re-working from someone new. We were friends from university and she recommended me as someone who could give the job a fair go – as I’d always been involved in writing stuff at uni. She put me in contact with the producer,
