This show is repetitive!
JaedenAnimate31 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Now, I ain't no critic. But I have to criticize the show. My God, where do I even begin? The show sucks. This show is the same thing. But with different actors/actresses. Let me tell you why it's bad. The acting: All of the characters were lackluster... None of them will really great at all. Plot: like I said, this show is similar to samurai, except the actors are just different. When I saw the trailer for this show. I was thinking. I hope this is better than samurai. And guess what? It was even worse! Characters: most of them are lackluster and not even great actors to begin with. I mean they're not as bad then samurai. But still bad if not even worse than samurai. If I like to rate this show. I will give it a zero out of ten. It is really lackluster and it didn't have a good storyline to it.

Super Megaforce is a Super Mega Farce
moonwalker192321 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
When this originally happen, I had extremely high hopes. As someone who watched Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger and nearly ever PR series, I dreamed of how they'd take all the Sentai tributes that became Ranger series and how awesome it'd be to see all the past Rangers. When I heard that only a few would appear, I was okay. When I saw Megaforce, it wasn't that great, but it was somewhat watchable. When I saw they'd include Dairanger in there, I was okay. I was excited about the whole thing. But Super Megaforce rolled around, took 20 years of Rangers history, and through it out the window! The script was laughable, the plot ridiculous, and where they got an alien invasion right in Megaforce, they got it ALL WRONG in Super Megaforce. If that's not bad enough, the characters are awful and horribly acted! Besides Noah, the black nerd who is like a modern Billy, and Jake, the wise guy (always one of the best Ranger character types), the characters are bland, and not in the lovable way seen in the original Ranger series. Not to mention, they took out a bunch of Ranger tribute episodes (Time Force, Ninja Storm, Lost Galaxy (not counting that one bit of original footage), Lightspeed Rescue, Operation Overdrive (the worst Ranger series, only now surpassed by this), Zeo, In Space, and Alien Rangers (not too big a lose there)) for a bunch of nonsense filler and episodes that include some Sentai teams with little to no explanation other than "Powers never seen before on this planet." And if that's not the worst, they built up the Legendary Battle for years, but have only 11 Rangers, and 90% of the footage is just the 199 Sentai battle, with some new footage of only the Megaforce Rangers and ONE shot of the pink Turbo Ranger. That's not even a GOOD Ranger series! Not to mention, they milk JDF's return, and show no footage of him, besides the walk in the beginning and that nonsense sparkling scene at the end. As quoted by Wes of Time Force, the Legendary Rangers may be proud of them, but the fans sure aren't. Myself included. I'm just grateful it's over and come 2015, Judd Lynn will return for a Dino team return. Please, Chip. Please make Neo Saban PR good.

A Disgrace of a Childhood Classic; Puts Power Rangers to Shame
mathias-bradley13 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is my review of Power Rangers Megaforce. I was born in 1995 when the original series first came out and I've practically grown up with the Power Rangers. I remember very clearly during my youth how my friends and I would always play Power Rangers in our elementary school playground during recess and how I would always be asking my grandparents to buy me Power Rangers action figures as opposed to anything else. Even once I got older, I was still a devoted fan of the series, even writing my own fan-fictions in 6th and 8th Grade and continuing to watch until the end of Jungle Fury when the channel change forced me to stop watching.

With that being said, when Samurai was announced, I was very excited and left sorely disappointed upon watching the first few episodes by the mediocre acting and lack of character development despite the relatively strong plot which had a lot of potential in terms of drama that was never tapped into. When Megaforce was announced, I was at least half-way hoping and expecting that the series could potentially redeem itself with a decent season on the heels of the poorly written and acted Samurai. boy was I gob smacked. This season has got to be the worst in Power Rangers history and that is me being generous !. To put it in perspective, if all of the Power Ranger seasons were gemstones, this season is a lump of coal that makes Turbo look like a diamond and that is seriously saying something. There are a number of reasons why I feel this way.

First off, the characters presented by this season WERE THE EXACT SAME ONES WE SAW IN SAMURAI !. There is next to no difference between them !. Its like when they were writing, the writers and producers said ''Lets just keep these characters as close to the ones of the previous season so no one is confused'' !. The only difference is that the Red Ranger is a bit more ''mysterious'' than the previous one, an aspect which is very poorly acted, and apart from the change from a Green to a Black Ranger, there was almost no effort placed into giving this season any distinguishing features in terms of character writing. I could write a better team of characters than this with my eyes closed !

The second reason and this is the real kicker for me personally, the acting is PATHETIC !, I mean really pathetic !. None of the actors in this season had any chemistry on set and their interactions seem very forced and childish, almost as if they cannot get enough into character, (then again, they probably can't since the characters are so poorly written). The acting in this season is so bad, its like someone is telling the actors to remember this is a kids show and to not scare them. The target audience here is exposed to more graphic violence whilst in school than they are from a TV series, I don't think seeing some effort would be too much of a risk.

The third reason is that like Samurai, this series had potential and that potential was destroyed by the writers and producers. If perhaps they did away with the stupid name Megaforce which sounds stupid enough on its own, let alone saying Power Rangers with it. Its like the writers either got really desperate or were just playing around with words and used whatever came to mind. The whole plot line was brilliant, an alien invasion has been used before in earlier seasons and with some decent special effects, good writing and acting, it could have been brilliantly done. However, this season was doomed due to the production company's dumbing down for a juvenile audience who can very well take this kind of stuff. This season was so poorly acted and written out that I don't personally consider it to be an official Power Rangers series, its that poor. This is not including the fact that they used the exact same morphing call, the exact same theme song with minor differences and took no creative licenses.

In conclusion, Megaforce is a disgrace to Power Rangers and I hope the production company does Dino Charge some real justice next year because it has potential. With the kind of cast they have, featuring various ethnicities, it looks like they have at least wised up a little bit with casting. However, if they fall on the same mistakes that they did with these past seasons, I'd rather see Power Rangers be cancelled and go out with some honor rather than continuing to be mutilated like it has been.

It was 20 years ago today..
zordmaker18 April 2013
Well, what's to say? Back in 1994, the internet was in it's infancy. I was working on the Power Rangers movie in Australia, building zord cockpits. Yes, a mad fan of the show, working on the show and surrounded by Power rangers. Hence my handle (Zordmaker), a handle I have now held since the movie came out in 1995.

Today I sat down and watched the first two episodes of "Power Rangers Megaforce" with my 9 year old daughter, who'se name (naturally) is Kimberley.

Before that handle I was known on the 'net as "Paul MMPR Forever". Others would jest at me and my handle, saying that Power Rangers was a fad and would never last. Who'se had the last laugh now eh? "PR Megaforce" does justice to 20 years of history with the show coming home to roost with it's original producers but still filmed in NZ. The first ep is deliberately formula and essentially the same as the 20 year old fossil.

As with the original, there's a long way to go yet for Megaforce. It has a the same problems as it's more modern predecessors (Samurai & back to about Time Force) in that there's simply too much smash and bash action and not enough time to tell a story.

But story was never a strong point with Power Rangers. That's why when we see some (as was the case with the first series back in 1993-94) we covet it so much. My satisfying feeling is that Megaforce might be more than just a 20 year homage to the original.

Give it a chance. Especially if you're an old fan of the show, have drifted away and might want to come back. I've never really liked everything that Jonathan Tzachor did (that second PR movie was a low point) but hey, without him there would be no PR - and now (it would seem) no Megaforce.

Go for it, team. Well done! Zordmaker

Wasted Opportunity
brasjuan4 January 2015
I started watching, and finished watching, and I'm still wondering about what I saw. It has got to be the wackiest writing I've seen! Lots of things reminded us of the good old morphing days, but all the rest seemed sewn together in some kind of crazy quilt of evil! I mean, there's barely any explanation for the new power's origin, why they are sporting obviously pirate uniforms and zords, and even fighting styles. I guess the super sentai fans all know why, but it is supposed to be an independent show from that right? To make it worse, they had all this footage from the "legendary rangers", but decided to simply make new one with the megaforce uniform. Why? Couldn't they just create a storyline with new rangers - but from the past - and enrich even more its history? Anyway, this season just came out as a wasted opportunity. The old super sentai uniforms seen in this season (as the ones that weren't shown) had all great stories behind them, or even new ones to be imagined. But the creators just grazed upon them, and preferred to stay with a very simple script.

great return to basics
mccroryj9 February 2013
I've been a die hard fan of the rangers since I was 13, 20 years ago. after watching every episode over the years it was beginning to become clear that power rangers had lost their spark. after dinothunder Disney began to strangle the life out of the series. rpm was the rangers salvation however by that time Disney was doing everything it could to stifle the potential hit allowing zero publicity and changing it's time slot around constantly to confuse and lose it's viewers. Hearing that saban had swooped in to resurrect the series was music to my ears. then came samurai.... what a pile of steaming crap that was. and two years of unbearable acting, thin plots, and terrible writing was almost enough to tear me away from my childhood heroes. megaforce is the show I've been waiting for. check it out.

Awful compared to some of the other series of PR
maxitkane10 December 2013
It is obvious that this whole season was just filler in the leadup to the Gokaiger adaptation, but still. It deserves to be reviewed.

Let's start off with the acting. It is absolutely offensively bad. I would be embarrassed if I were auditioning for this season and lost to the cast that they hired. Seriously, the Red Ranger may as well have been played by a robot. No one on the cast knows how to act. You get little to no emotion out of the majority of the rangers. And it seems as if they're keeping this cast for their Gokaiger adaptation, Super Megaforce! FFS!

The writing was awful, too. Compared to RPM, which had characters with enriching, intriguing backstories - This is a joke. The Pink Ranger was the closest we got to a deep character, and that's saying something.

The overall story arc was weak. I could have thought up a way better arc. And I'm sure you reading this could have, too. The story arc Saban chose was predictable, weak and boring. It never bothered to try something new.

All that this season got right was the setting and special effects. The places where the Rangers went looked great in HD. And the effects looked good for a children's show.

Because of the aforementioned reasons, I am giving the overall season 3 out of 10.

The absolute worse power rangers season ever
zjunejo9 September 2019
Theres only one job that this season did extremely well. It made saved power rangers turbo from being the worst season.

This season had a god awful load of fillers, no acting at all and most of all the big mega epic legendary battle was a huge disappointment. Legendary battle, more like legendary betrayal to the audience.

gosei great disappointment ready!!!!
magnaguard10 August 2019
In my own opinion, I think megaforce is the worst season of power rangers I have ever seen. And don't tell me "what about super mega force" no there the exact same series just spit into to seasons.

everything that is wrong with power rangers is represented in this season the plot is unoriginal , the characters suck, and the villains are lame. Gosei may not be as bad as mentor ji from samurai. But gosei makes no sense he just gives the rangers new powers and zords at random for no reason. All he says is " you have earned a new power" or " you have unlocked a new power". The worst part about super megaforce was the legendary battle it was so rushed. I'm sure that the sentai was longer. And then the morph into sentai only teams. That is just bull crap it's going to confuse kids thinking they were previous teams.

I don't recommend this season

Power Rangers done right!
reddragonhero1727 September 2013
At long last this was the Power Rangers season I was waiting for and didn't know I was waiting for. The franchise in general is mostly about frenzied kick action, preposterous moments and general nonsense. But this all changed that, thanks to polished effects, costumes, fights, acting, and most importantly writing. The writing takes the cake as it implements a lesson/theme into each episode while simultaneously giving character development with an actual plot of how a small group of teenagers need to defend Earth from evil aliens (thanks to the costumes the villains are definitely menacing rather than ridiculous). My favorites are the Red Ranger Troy (disciplined, serious, yet caring and knows that everyone has weakness) and the Pink Ranger Emma (one who deeply cares about the world around it and knows that there is always a way for everyone to work together). As a bonus for longtime fans, includes a "hall of fame" for the rangers of the past. All in all this is one that both fans and perhaps non-fans including reluctant parents can enjoy, ranking along the veins of the underrated Lightspeed Rescue.

That was a super mega stupid
maxmages8 April 2019
I love love Power Rangers probably because he is so stupid

They tried to revive the spirit of the old mighty morphin-days without considering that we have now another Zeitgeist. That would not have mattered if you thought about what made Power Rangers "the camp". You had plenty of time both in front of and behind the camera to do something great. Man had many opportunities and many opportunities to either do the same, to do something better and to show the normal viewer the Power Rangers can be for everyone.

This was completely ignored and the focus was always put on the action scenes. and they tried to burn through so much Sentai material and get through to the anniversary season as fast as possible. but we got characters that are so so crappy even the actors are embarrassed of it, mentors spend the power-ups and weapons like you're in a bingo hall. And with a "save the environment "-message so convoluted and stupid but even that Captain Planet laughs about you. A complete ignorance of my dear franchise that has offended me so much as a true Power Rangers fan that I just can not describe it anymore.

I wish to mention mentioning the old seasons, building on the past history and a bit more world building to make this mega franchise running for over 20 years a success but all we got is a grotty boring disappointment and not a whole thing.

BEST POWER RANGERS I EVER SEEN EVER SINCE DINO CHARGE AND NINJA STEEL!!!
zanimdb-029707 December 2022
I mean, I know the Super Megaforce idea is kinda cookoo because its pirates. But for sure, my FAVORITE Megaforce episode is the Legendary Battle episode. I mean, just now, I'm writing a new Power Rangers book called Power Rangers Ultra Force. And not to mention my mom loves Power Rangers and my mom's favorite is Mighty Morphin. So, I would want you to believe that Megaforce is not one of the bad Power Rangers shows in the Morphing world of Power Rangers. So, I just want to say to PR fans, keep doing good, Power Ranger fans and actors, keep Morphining and don't judge how terrible Power Rangers are. HAVE FUN!!!!!!

The only reason I'm giving a 3 is because of the yellow ranger.
uqailmahari3 November 2018
This show is terrible. I do not recommend watching. The unmorphed fights are so bad that you can actually see that they're stunt doubles without getting a second look. And they use way too many super sentai footage that they hardly have any original content.

MM RIP OFF?
BuldakNoodles2826 June 2022
For starters, high schoolers have been done a billion times or what feels like a billion times. Troy is such a bad leader. Noah is the nerd type like Billy from MM. Jake is the cool/athletic type, similar to Zack. And all of the others are just bland and feel like a thin sheet of paper. Also this was just a disappointment and a shame to the precious Gokaiger. You had one job!

That is Sucks
jakalawang14 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is the worst series ever made. Ranger costumes that don't fit the theme of the series and new powers that don't know where they're coming from. In fact, I had high hopes for this series by the time gokaiger and ended. But all I got was a piece of trash that wasn't worth seeing. Why did sabans have to combine two unrelated sentai into one chaotic season. One word for sabans, ITS sucks.

If I could, I would've given it a 0 star rating
itsmet-2861924 August 2022
Worst by far maybe. Well maybe kids would say I am just being nostalgic here. Or some would say, Power Rangers are meant to be cheesy. But I'm not. I know every Power Rangers season was cheesy as the franchise's audience are mainly kids. But the seasons I grew up watching, they were cheesy but deep sometimes at the same time. Each character had unique characteristics and attributes. Each season had some memories to get nostalgic for.

I was only 10 so I couldn't realize Samurai seasons are so pathetic. But Megaforce seasons are beyond ridiculous.

Power Rangers Megaforce: Returned from the grave!
duded52516 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Now if you have seen my review of P R Samurai you would know that i was clearly not impressed, but now with the arrival of megaforce MAN I was impressed, the acting has improved, the stupid catch phrases are gone, the special effects have improved (not too dramatically) and it is all now back to the old days of P R. With acting they have made a dramatic improvement by cutting out the over emotional voices and lines, and they don't moan like crazy any more when they get as much as a hit to the stomach (seriously though, if u closed your eyes and listened to the moaning they did in samurai, your mind will be thinking dirty for the rest of the series.) And now the spfx. One scene i was amazed with was with the episode where humans were about to be used as experiments, some ufo/wheel things rolled away on land and the bulldozer zord thing smashed out of the rock, I could've sworn it was CG but at the same time i thought it was just a bit of weakened rock. Overall this series has made an incredible comeback and i will be watching later episodes to quench my thirst for P R.
