- Ten years after losing it all, once-promising comedian Tommy Fullmer fights his own stubbornness to reclaim some semblance of happiness. Released from prison after a drug conviction, Fullmer tries unsucessfully to reconnect with his daughter. He does connect with a dog who needs expensive medical treatment, spurring Tommy to find a way to make some cash. His best option is a "Last Comic Standing" type competition. He refuses the help of a good friend, fails to know the value of a vintage baseball card and rejects the love of a younger woman. In spite of his stubbornness, or stupidity, he begins to rebuild his career and finds love. Then, on the verge of success, the dog dies and he must decide what he really wants out of life.
