At the Chicago stop on the initial road tour, a fan asked Terrance Zdunich and Darren Lynn Bousman if Ms. Merrywood had a first name. They said no, but allowed the fan to come up with one. The name she came up with was Kathleen.

Of all the carnies in the carnival, Wick - played by Alexa PenaVega - is the only one with an actual name. The other carnies are named by titles, such as Hobo Clown, Painted Doll, The Scorpion, and the Ticket-Keeper.

Director Darren Lynn Bousman and writer Terrance Zdunich toured the United States in 32 shows during April and May 2012 promoting and screening the film in a road show setting with performers and costume contests. The tour also featured actors from the film such as Emilie Autumn and Marc Senter.
