Oliver Queen and his father are lost at sea when their luxury yacht sinks, apparently in a storm. His father dies, but Oliver survives for five years on an uncharted island and eventually returns home. But he wasn't alone on the island where he learned not only how to fight and survive but also of his father's corruption and unscrupulous business dealings. He returns to civilization a changed man, determined to put things right. He disguises himself with the hood of one of his mysterious island mentors, arms himself with a bow and sets about hunting down the men and women who have corrupted his city.

Did You Know?
In the comics, Oliver Queen is known for sporting a trademark goatee. Stephen Amell
reportedly allowed his beard to grow during the Season 2 hiatus and fashioned a goatee while shaving it and "looked like someone with a record trying to blend into a new city." When asked if his version would ever use the goatee, he tweeted "100% no. Never. Our show could go 14 seasons and a goatee will never appear. Hope that clears things up. Forever." An older Oliver, however, does sport the goatee in Legends of Tomorrow

In two second-season episodes, chest compressions to restart Oliver's and Roy's hearts were done incorrectly. They are pushing down on the person's actual chest, rather than two finger widths above the sternum. That would damage the ribs, lungs and other vitals. See more
