With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Antichrist (Lars von Trier)
Like the majority of Lars von Trier films, from the first moments of Antichrist, one will be able to discern if it’s an experience they want to proceed with. For those will to endure its specific unpleasantness, there’s a poetic, affecting exploration of despair at its center. Chaos reigns, indeed. – Jordan R.

American Pastoral (Ewan McGregor)
If my limited experience with Philip Roth adaptations is any indication, his novels deal in emotion. There are existential crises concerning identity involved, each a character study about life’s impact beyond the surface experiences propelling them forward. This isn’t something easily translated from page to screen when so much consists of internalized motivation. You must really look into the text, ignoring plot to...

Life looks pretty good for Sandy Duffy. Twenty years ago he wrote smash hit novel A Patch of Fog and has been reaping the benefits ever since. The book has bought him a swanky pad in a trendy part of town, a satisfying day job as a creative writing lecturer, a weekly TV spot as a culture critic (complete with a secret relationship with the show’s host), and respect and admiration from all and sundry.
There are only a couple of flies in the ointment. His publisher is pressuring him to do a 20th-anniversary interview tour of a book Duffy is sick of hearing and talking about. Somewhere along the way he’s also developed a nasty case of kleptomania: idly wandering the aisles of department stores, slipping small cheap items into his pocket and relishing the thrill of getting away with something.
Until, of course, he doesn’t get away with it.

Exhausted by the travails of celebrity, a writer wants to retire. This in itself is a strange proposition. Writers want to write -- need to write -- and the idea of retirement is usually only entertained by those who are suffering from an illness of some sort, or long-term writer's block. In a sense, though, Sandy Duffy (Conleth Hill) is suffering from a sickness of the soul. His one and only novel, A Patch of Fog, written when he was only 25, became immensely popular and has remained in print. A 20th-anniversary edition is on its way, and Sandy's publisher Freddie Clarke (Ian McElhinney) wants him to do a book tour. Yet Sandy protests that he is tired of all the hubbub about the book;...

From his break-out role in Snatch to taking part in productions from Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Tomas Alfredson, Shane Meadows, and more, Stephen Graham has always been a compelling aspect of any production. His latest, the Belfast thriller A Patch of Fog finds him taking the role of a security guard who finds a once-famous novelist shoplifting, then blackmails him into a friendship. Following a U.K. bow last summer, the film will arrive stateside this month and we’re pleased to premiere an exclusive clip.
We said in our review from Tiff, “After Michael Lennox’s success with the Oscar-nominated short Boogaloo and Graham, it was only a matter of time before he’d delve back into the feature game with his debut solo fiction. ★★★☆☆ During one of A Patch of Fog's increasingly sinister exchanges between unhinged cat and desperate mouse, Stephen Graham's devilishly dubious security guard, Robert, threatens his quarry with disconcerting rhetoric: "Am I a sad little man?" Though voiced by a veritable oddball, the sentiment could equally be applied to his prey, Sandy Duffy, a renowned novelist played by Conleth Hill - who will be familiar to many as Lord Varys in Game of Thrones. Through the titular blanket of low-hanging precipitation, secrets, lies and long-buried anxieties blur in and out of focus in an assuredly composed psychological thriller.
