Storyline

In a parallel present the artificial human has come into its own. Robots no longer have anything robot-like about them. New technology and advancements in the field of science have made it possible to manufacture a product - a kind of mechanized servant - that is so similar to a real human that it can often be considered a perfectly good substitute. The Human Robot (HUBOT) have also given rise to new problems and dilemmas. Thorny legal questions have increasingly started to occupy people's minds and are still waiting to be answered: Who is responsible for the actions of a hubot? Do hubots have some form of "hubot rights"? Should they be paid for their work? As an ever growing number of people form relationships with hubots, the boundaries between human and machine become blurred. When humans make copies of themselves, which are so close to the real thing they form emotional bonds, the questions arises - What does it really mean to be 'human'? Written by Lars Lundström

Trivia

The story takes place in a version of present-day Sweden where the use of androids is commonplace. The androids, known as hubots, function as servants, workers, companions, and even illicitly as sexual partners, with different models having specific features designed for their distinctive roles. While some people embrace this new technology, others are disturbed by it. A far-right political movement, the "real humans", arises in opposition to the encroachment of hubots upon human society. Some members use the derogatory term "Pacmans" to refer to hubots. See more »

Excellent Swedish Sci Fi
13 August 2014 | by s3276169See all my reviews

Tired of the plethora of unimaginative and often shallow sci fi drama's coming out of the USA? Then take a look at the Swedish sci fi series Real Humans.

This very original, highly intelligent drama is both engaging and deep with elements reminiscent of Blade Runner but in a contemporary urban setting.

The central question the series raises as per Blade Runner is what does it mean to be human? Are humanities humanoid robotic creations any less real than the human biological creations that brought them into existence?

I wont say much more as it may spoil the pleasant surprise this series represents but suffice to say as a die hard sci fi fan this is one of the best series I have seen in a long time and comes highly recommended. Don't miss out.Nine out of ten from me.
