Dark Dreamers: KNB Effects Group (2001)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Topics include:

--No respect --Sky Kids --Halloween parties --Romero & Savini --Day of the Dead --Rick Baker

The KNB Effects people are the guests in this episode. We start off with Robert Kurtzman talking about how he was never in sports and instead went to the movies. He talks about how he got involved in make-up and talks about working on films such as SPY KIDS. Greg Nicotero is up next and discusses how he got into the movies and what it was like skipping school so that he could go to the movies. He also talks about meeting George Romero plus visiting the sets of DAWN OF THE DEAD and CREEPSHOW before being asked to work on DAY OF THE DEAD. Next up is Howard Berger who talks about how he got into the business, which was through Stan Winston after making a promise not to drop out of school. Other great stories include working on ARMY OF DARKNESS and FROM DUSK TILL DAWN and how when he was 13-years-old he pretty much stalked Rick Baker before getting to meet him. He then goes into detail why he tries to reply to every piece of fan mail. This is certainly one of the most entertaining episodes as we hit on such a wide range of topics and all of them very interesting. The stuff with Nicotero meeting Romero were great stories as was hearing Berger trying to track down Rick Baker and what his response was. Fans of the group will get a lot of great stories but some of the best stuff just deals with them being fans just like countless other people.
