When I sat down here in 2023 to watch the 2022 Vietnamese movie "Dan Choi Khong So Con Roi" (aka "My Father Is a Playboy" or "Loved Child", the latter being the more appropriate title for the movie), I was under the impression that I was going to watch a comedy.
However, director Huynh Dong's movie was a drama laced with light comedy elements, so it wasn't a comedy as I thought. But the storyline, despite not being an actual comedy, turned out to be rather nicely written and made for a rather enjoyable viewing experience. It is a story that really sinks into the heart and sticks with you, because it is a storyline that contains hope, love, but also tragedy and loss. And the way that the story is told and constructed made for a rather personal and emotional movie experience.
Needless to say that I wasn't familiar with the actors and actresses on the cast list in "Dan Choi Khong So Con Roi", but the actors and actresses put on great performances. Especially the leading actor (the dad) and the leading actress (the daughter), they really carried the movie phenomenally with their performances.
If you enjoy a heartfelt drama, then you should certainly take the time to sit down and watch "Dan Choi Khong So Con Roi". But a word of advice, the ending might get you tearing up, so have a tissue or two at hand.
I was genuinely and wholly entertained by director Huynh Dong's 2022 movie "Dan Choi Khong So Con Roi", and it is one that I can warmly recommend.
My rating of "Dan Choi Khong So Con Roi" lands on a seven out of ten stars.

I can barely watch a Vietnamese movie, because most of them are so bad, they're just skimpy films to make quick money, not caring about the real quality when making movies.
Vietnam's cinema will never be able to develop as rich and diverse as the films of the capitalist countries until the communist regime dies down, and I'm sure most people would agree on this.
Vietnamese movie themes all revolve around issues of love, family, a bit of society, and ghost movies, that's all, all other movie themes like science fiction, science fiction, etc. Issues related to politics, government or government will not be on the screen because the communist leaders will not allow it.
The Vietnamese people will never be able to make movies freely unless the communist regime collapses, not only in the field of cinema but also in all areas of life.
