  • Extroverted fun-loving Austin Moon becomes an overnight teen pop-singing sensation with a music video of a song he sub-consciously "borrowed" from a brilliant but shy and nerdy songwriter named Ally Dawson, who works at a local music store that's his favorite hangout. Realizing she's the key to his success, he tries to convince her to be his main songwriting partner. Together with the help of their respective best friends, aspiring film director Dez and the semi-employed Trish, they are determined to bring his performances and her songs to the top of the charts.—Daniel Timothy Dey

Descrizione

  • The episode starts off at Sonic Boom, a music store run by Lester (Andy Milder) and his daughter Ally (Laura Marano). Allys friend Trish (Rain Rodriguez) comes in and announces she got a job at the local cupcake store and offers Ally a cupcake. Ally knows she shouldnt eat, but takes it anyway. She starts to eat it when Trish tells her its a reject. Ally spits it out of her mouth and, thinking she is still talking to her friend, accidentally asks an old lady on a date to the movies. Trish has to get back to work. Lester arrives, saying he found 37 cents today (by stealing peoples coins from the wish fountain). Ally pleads with her father to put a piano in her room for practice, but Lester says no. Austin (Ross Lynch) enters the store playing the drums with Dez (Callum Worthy) right behind directing a music video on his iPhone, which interrupts and annoys Ally as they arent allowed to play with any of the stores instruments. Austin impresses Ally by showing her hes talented, but Dez is a disaster when it comes to playing musical instruments.

After the credits we are shown to Ally playing a rough cut of a song called Double Take in her room. Austin interrupts her and suggests she speeds it up. Ally throws him out for two things: 1 being annoying and 2) for not reading signs carefully (as Ally has a sign on her door saying Do Not Enter. Trish comes in the store the next day signing a song, which turns out to be Allys song Double Take. Ally asks where she heard the song. Turns out Austin borrowed the song and made himself a music video; the video made him an overnight sensation. Ally is furious and goes to Austins house to confront him. Austin reveals all he hasnt written a song before and when he does, theyre terrible. He doesnt want Ally to have credit, as it will put shame on his newfound reputation. Ally leaves in a huff.

Two days later, Austin is set to appear on The Helen Show (a riff on The Ellen Show) that evening, and Trish wants Ally to confront and expose him as a fraud. Ally doesnt want to as she has stage freight, but Trish finally convinces her (and after hearing Trish has downloaded the song as a ringtone). Trish and Ally manage to talk their way past the security guard, but they enter another sound stage by mistake that turns out to be a news room. After performing the song on The Helen Show, Helen (Mimi Drew) wants Austin to come back tomorrow and perform another song. Austin nervously agrees.

That night Austin comes back and wants Ally to help him write a song. Ally kicks him out, but Austin does a heartfelt apology where he reveals the only reason he shot that video was to prove to his dad that he is wrong about the music business as having a bazillion to one shot of making it. Ally says that is what her dad told him and agrees to help him. In her room, Ally tries to convince Austin that songwriting takes time and proceeds to read some lyrics from her book (in which all are too depressing for Austin). Austin tries to fun her up so she can get to writing by having the group dance. They then spend all night trying to write the song, which they complete by morning. Austin would like Ally to appears on the taping of The Helen Show, and they rush to the studio. However, the pianist gets sick and Ally has to fill in. Ally tells Austin about her stage freight and they argue for a bit until Austin comes up with an idea by covering part of the stage so Ally can play her piano. However, this was all apart of Austin's plan to help Ally overcome her stage fright but it only ends in disaster when Ally destroys the set.

When Ally returns to work on Monday, she finds Austin has redecorated her room and put new stuff in it. Ally agrees to be Austins permanent songwriter. Austin finds out his video has been bumped to #2, so Ally asks what is number one --- her embarrassing moment on The Helen Show. She gets revenge by spraying him with foam.

There is a running gag in the premiere episode (or special preview as Disney Channel calls it) regarding Trish and her many jobs: in the opening, she has a job at the cupcake store, the next day she gets a job at the magic store (Ally states shes worked there two days longer than she usually works, which is either a few hours or she gets fired the next day), and then at a local pet store, until finally she gets a job working as Austins manager.
