‘Carousel,’ ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Lead 2018 Drama Desk Nominations (Full List)
The Broadway revival of “Carousel” and the new musical “SpongeBob SquarePants” led the list of nominations for the 2018 Drama Desk Awards, with “Carousel” snagging a dozen nods (including outstanding musical revival) and “SpongeBob” landing 11 (among them outstanding musical).

Mean Girls” — the only other Broadway show competing with “SpongeBob” for new musical in this year’s Drama Desks — scored ten nods total. Among plays, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” already an awards-favorite in London, took eight, while the high-profile revival of “Angels in America,” starring Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane, walked away with seven.

The Drama Desks are one of a number of theater awards that cluster around the Broadway-centric Tony Awards in the late spring. The Drama Desks, however, serve as an imperfect indicator of Tony love, since the they consider Off Broadway shows eligible to compete against Broadway productions. This year, too, one of the Broadway’s season’s biggest contenders,

Now this is more like it! After finding success in the horror genre and taking a step up in the world with big(ger) budget films starring big name stars, such as Halle Berry in The Call and films like Oculus, WWE Studios have seemingly returned to the low-budget, WWE superstar featuring action movies that originally peaked my interest in the “studio” back in the early 2000s – in the days of The Condemned, 12 Rounds and The Marine – with Countdown.

Countdown sees the WWE give one of their most charismatic underdog “characters” Dolph Ziggler (aka Nick Nemeth) a chance to shine in an action hero role as Ray Thompson, a take-no-prisoners-get-the-job-done cop haunted by

‘Extraction’ DVD Review

Stars: Bruce Willis, Kellan Lutz, Gina Carano, D.B. Sweeney, Joshua Mikel, Steve Coulter, Dan Bilzerian, Heather Johansen, Roman Mitichyan, Christopher Rob Bowen, Rob Steinberg, Lydia Hull, Tyler Jon Olson | Written by Max Adams, Umair Aleem | Directed by Steven C. Miller

I have a love/hate relationship with Bruce Willis these days. On the one hand he stars in films I love such as the Red, G.I. Joe and The Expendables; and on the other he appears in direct to market dross like The Prince, Set-Up and Vice. Now don’t get me wrong, some of the direct to DVD titles Willis has appeared in are pretty good, Fire With Fire for example, but he’s been batting way below average on the Dtv front recently.

Extraction sees a ruthless terrorist group kidnap retired spy Leonard Turner (Bruce Willis; GI Joe: Retaliation, Die Hard, Armageddon), and threaten to unleash a

Fifty Shades of Grey sequels on the way

Ahead of its release this Valentine’s Day weekend (because nothing says flowers and romance like an erotic drama), there was some news coming out of a special fan screening of Fifty Shades of Grey. Some fans tweeted and revealed that the book’s sequels Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed would also be going into development.

So far, none of this is confirmed by Universal, but excited fans (via MTV), who attended the “Fifty Shades First” event in New York said that author E.L. James and director Sam Taylor-Johnson confirmed the sequels.

Fifty Shades of Grey has broken box office records in terms of pre-booked tickets for an R-rated movie, and industry experts reckon it will easily take the box office next weekend with around $61 million. Should the movie meet those numbers, expect Universal to announce the sequels pretty sharpish.

Fifty Shades of Grey gets an 18 rating in the UK

It had been speculated since its announcement that the big screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey would get a 12A rating in the UK (the equavilent of a PG-13 in the States) in order to get more butts in seats. But by doing so, fans feared they would be missing the essence of the story.

Well, fans’ fears can now be put to rest.

It was revealed yesterday by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) that Fifty Shades of Grey will be rated 18, meaning no one under the age of 18 can see the movie. As the BBFC website describes it, “Fifty Shades Of Grey is a drama, based on the novel by E.L. James, about the relationship between a wealthy businessman and a young student.”

“The film contains strong sex and nudity, along with the portrayal of erotic role play based on domination, submission and sado-masochistic practices,” they continue.

Fifty Shades of Grey director had on-set bust ups with book’s author E.L. James

Having just been announced to have received an 18-rating here in the UK, Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson has been talking about some of the on-set issues she had with the book’s author E.L. James.

“It was difficult I’m not going to lie” she told Porter Magazine. “We definitely fought but they were creative fights and we would resolve them.”

“We would have proper on-set barneys, and I’m not confrontational, but it was about finding a way between the two of us, satisfying her vision of what she’d written as well as my need to visualise this person on screen but, you know, we got there,” she continued.

When asked if the two saw through their differences, Taylor-Johnson simply paused for thought and didn’t give an answer – suggesting the tension between the two remains.
