Storyline

Ted, who came across the costume in a costume rental shop and discovered its rental records, finally tracks down the potential woman of his dreams that he met at a Halloween party 10 years ago. He coined that woman the Slutty Pumpkin because of the costume. She is Naomi, and once Ted tracks her down, he finds that she is as beautiful as he remembers and she is as eager to hook up with him as he is with her. But after a decade of anticipation, Ted finds that something isn't quite right with their relationship. He's willing to endure some problems after a whole decade of waiting, but one can only endure so much. How will Naomi feel if and when Ted tells her things aren't working? Meanwhile, Marshall and Lily dread receiving yet another "used" gift from her grandparents (previous gifts included a lawnmower) that they can't use in their city life. But this time, Lily's grandparents offer them their house in the suburbs, as they are moving to Florida. Lily is excited to think of raising ... Written by Huggo

Trivia

This episode features two songs parodied by 'Weird Al' Yankovic, who appeared in the previous episode How I Met Your Mother: Noretta (2011). Barenaked Ladies' 'One Week' became Yankovic's 'Jerry Springer' and James Brown's 'Living in America' is parodied as 'Living with a Hernia'. See more »

Goofs

In the dream sequence at the end when Barney fights his Canadian alter ego, Barney is no longer wearing the ducky tie around his arm, which would be in violation of his bet with Marshall. See more »

Quotes

Barney Stinson: [Barney has just sipped a drink to drown the fact that he has Canadian blood] This is nice. What is this?
Waitress: Canadian whiskey.
Barney Stinson: [Spits out drink] I want Scotch... American Scotch, from Scotland! Just get that swill away from me!
[hands back glass to waitress and makes cat-like hiss; to Robin]
Barney Stinson: Why are you doing this to me?
Robin Scherbatsky: You've been ripping on Canada since Justin Bieber was knee-high to a snowblower, so now this Canuck's gonna be on you like the drummer from the Yukon Blondes, high up on Timbits.

Neil Patrick Harris Does It Again
5 February 2015 | by slightlymad22See all my reviews

Once again I'm starting my review of this episode with the same sentence. Neil Patrick Harris knocks it out if the park once again as Barney Stinson as "How I Met Your Mother" continues to stay back on track. In fact it's one of the best of the season.

Plot In A Paragraph: Ted finally meets his mystery girl in the Slutty Pumpkin costume from season one. Meanwhile, Barney learns he is part Canadian, which delights Robin no end and she mocks him mercifully for it, and Lily wants to move to the suburbs.

Any episode that features the brilliant Neil Patrick Harris's character Barney Stinson in the main storyline is always excellent. His arrival at the rooftop party in stars-and-stripes boxing shorts and top hat with James Brown's "Living in America," a la Apollo Creed in "Rocky IV." Is TV gold. I could go on and on about the brilliance of this episode, and in particular Neil Patrick Harris but I won't bore you with it.

This is a really fun episode, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan are both excellent, and am I alone in finding it arousing when Lilly said "You can put it wherever you like"?? and Kal Penn does not return. Katy Holmes is great as "The Slutty Pumpkin"
