Marvel Releases First Runaways Trailer at Nycc 2017; Exclusive Thoughts on Episode 1

One of Marvel's most highly-anticipated new shows, Runaways, finally had the first trailer emerge at Nycc 2017! Check it out below! Plus, first thoughts on episode 1!

Since it was first released, Runaways has been one of my favorite comic series in the modern era. The way they consistently flipped the script with the audience with the kids thinking their parents are super heroes but are really villains and the way they came to grips with their powers was just fun to read. So, when Hulu first announced they would be creating a Runaways series with Marvel, not only was I excited but I thought it would make for a great series.

The first trailer they showed, during Nycc 2017, pretty much confirms those initial feelings.

This trailer is pretty much the comic series on the screen. Sure, there are a couple of minor changes, but it's nothing that will derail the show.

A Group of Mutants Have a Rough Night in The First 6-Minutes of The X-men Series The Gifted

Fox has released the first six minutes of the Bryan Singer-directed pilot episode of the upcoming X-Men-inspired series, The Gifted. The clip doesn't feature the main cast of characters that make up the Strucker family. However, the clip certainly sets the tone of the series and offers us a look at some familiar mutants, who are having a rough night as they are being hunted down by the police. The clip centers on the characters Blink (Jamie Chung), Polaris (Emma Dumont), Thunderbird (Blair Redford), and a new mutant created for the series named Eclipse (Sean Teale).

Watch The First Six Minutes Of The Gifted Right Now

There aren’t many shows that even have the theoretical possibility of getting me more interested in them than The Gifted. The Marvel Universe on television has mostly worked out for me, but more importantly, I want to know what Matt Nix does with the show, and I’m a pretty big fan of Amy Acker.

I’m not exactly sure how you keep an “on the run” story going forever, but it should be worth finding out where this can twist around its own gimmick. Previous looks at the show have already set things up pretty well, and if nothing else it looks like this is going to be a fun exploration of characters that goes a bit darker, much like the Netflix series we’ve seen so far.

Jeph Loeb Defends His Vision For Marvel's Inhumans

With everything Marvel has on television, and it's a lot -- 14 series across 5 networks -- plus growing concerns about viewer fatigue, the big question is why the Inhumans (and why now)? Early reviews of Marvel's Inhumans have been less than kind, suggesting that the series may not survive its first season (ABC is slotting it on Fridays, typically a death slot). Marvel is as opaque as any other entertainment organization, so Cbr went looking for answers but they came away with more questions, unfortunately.

As we like to say at Lrm, there are only a finite number of fans out there (and a limited number of hours per week). Considering that most of the well-known A and B-list heroes were already committed to film and TV franchises, the odds were high that the Inhumans could break through and capture a viable audience. Len Wiseman boards The Gifted as executive producer

Underworld director Len Wiseman has signed on to Fox’s upcoming X-Men series The Gifted as an executive producer, where he’ll join showrunner Matt Nix and fellow EPs Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg, as well as Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

Wiseman has directed the second episode of the series, titled ‘A New World’, which is said to be a key episode of the show. He also previously worked with Matt Nix on the Fox drama series A.P.B., where they both served as executive producers.

‘The Gifted’ Showrunner Says Series Will Not Ignore X-Men
“The Gifted” showrunner Matt Nix said that the upcoming Fox series will not shy away from dealing with the X-Men universe.

“In our world, one of the things we’ll be unpacking is the specific relationship of this group of characters to the X-Men,” Nix said Tuesday at the TCA summer press tour. “It’s in the trailer that the X-Men are gone. And that’s not a dodge, like ‘The X-Men are gone and we’re never going to mention them again!’ We’re going to be exploring it. It’s a huge deal to these guys. It’s a huge deal in the world. It’s one of the central mysteries of the show.”

Nix also addressed how the series will intersect with the X-Men cinematic universe.

The X-men-Themed Series The Gifted Gets a Cool Extended Comic-Con Trailer

Fox brought their new Marvel series The Gifted to Comic-Con today and showed off an extended trailer to the fans and they flipped over it! You can now watch that new trailer for yourselves below. It gives us our best look yet at the show and there's lots of great new footage highlighting several of the characters that will be in it. This X-Men-themed series looks pretty freakin' great and I'm excited to get to know these characters better and see what thrilling adventures await them.

One thing that was announced at that the Comic-Con panel was that this series would not crossover with the cinematic universe or the TV series Legion.

‘Wonder Woman’ Star Saïd Taghmaoui Joins ‘Legion’ Season 2
“Wonder Woman” star Saïd Taghmaoui will play Amahl Farouk — aka the Shadow King — in “Legion” season two. Noah Hawley, the creator of the FX drama series based on Marvel’s X-Men comics, announced the casting Thursday at Comic-Con.

“We are going to meet the Shadow King,” Hawley said.

The Shadow King was played in season one by Aubrey Plaza, who portrayed the character in the guise of protagonist David Haller’s friend Lenny, and Quinton Boisclair, who portrayed him as a monster who haunted Haller. Both actors will appear as those iterations of the character in season two.

The Shadow King was the only “Legion” character besides Haller taken from the Marvel comic books. All the other characters were original creations for the show. Executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who also produced Fox’s “X-Men” films, said that the character had originally been considered for a role in those movies.

A new promo spot has been released for the fantastic looking new X-Men series Gifted. The spot offers us new never-before-seen footage from the series, the pilot episode of which was directed by Bryan Singer. The first trailer that was released for the series was pretty awesome, and I've really liked everything I've seen from it so far. Gifted has the makings of a great series and I'm excited to watch it.

Earlier this year, FX and Marvel worked together to bring the incredibly unique series Legion to FX. The series followed David Haller, who may very well be the most powerful mutant known to man. Though it’s never quite hit the dizzying box office heights of, say, Captain America: Civil War or even Suicide Squad, Fox’s X-Men universe is currently bursting at the seams with content, and it wasn’t too long ago that the studio nailed down release plans for three of its biggest 2018 tentpoles: Deadpool 2, New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Get your first look into Fox's new drama from writer Matt Nix and X-Men films godfather Bryan Singer entitled The Gifted.

The Gifted is written by Nix (Burn Notice, The Good Guys) and being helmed by Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men Apocalypse). It will focus on a couple, Reed and Caitlin Strucker, played by Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker, who after discovering that their children, played by Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White have mutant abilities are forced to take their family on the run from the government. They join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive. The show also stars Sean Teale, Jamie Chung, Coby Bell, Emma Dumont, and Blair Redford.

Marvel Debuts First Full Trailer For Upcoming X-Men TV Show The Gifted

Fox is aggressively growing their X-Men cinematic universe, and after the massive success of films like Logan and Deadpool, it’s easy to see why. With projects such as New Mutants, X-Force, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Deadpool 2 all cramming up the pipeline, there’s certainly a lot to look forward to for fans of the franchise, but it’s not only on the big screen that the mutants are popping up.

The studio’s been making the push into television as well, and after premiering the excellent Legion earlier this year, they’re now looking to bring us yet another X-Men show in the form of The Gifted. Deadpool Animated Series Sets Up Shop At Fxx; Donald Glover Signs On As Showrunner

Fxx and Marvel Television are officially teaming up to develop an adult-oriented Deadpool animated series, with Atlanta‘s Donald Glover on board as showrunner, along with frequent collaborator and younger brother, Stephen Glover.
