An elderly patient dies in a county hospital leaving no known next of kin. Over the course of the next twenty-four hours, we chart the efforts of four central characters in finding a family member to contact in regards to the death of this anonymous individual; a nurse, a social services representative of the hospital, the emergency contact person listed on the decedents admission form, and lastly an investigator from the public administrators office. I felt exactly the same things watching this movie as two others I saw last year, and which looked very the same. I speak of course of STILL LIFE and CHRONIC, two terrific and also depressing, because so realistic, pictures about loneliness, disease and the end of life. Not so many films dare showing such things. Not for all audiences, I warn you. It is a sort of documentary, more than a true film like the two others which I just talked about.
Useless to specify that most, if every character here, is non professional. And I guess the director spent many months, and maybe years, to make this tremendous movie shot four years ago. Four years. Such a shame it did not receive any awards or recognition. It deserved it.
