- When a warehouse fire kills a firefighter, Jane and Maura must investigate whether it was arson or an accident. But the investigation hits a snag when a hit-and-run leaves someone in the hospital.
- Jane and Maura investigate a warehouse fire in which a fireman, Craig Hill, was killed. Maura finds that the fire likely started from a heater that had been tampered with. The building was a denim factory and the owner, Arnold Whistler, had a number of sexual harassment lawsuits filed against him. Meanwhile, Maura' and her mother Constance are the victims of a hit and run driver. Maura escapes with a few scrapes and bruises but Constance is seriously injured. When she finds her biological father, mobster Paddy Doyle, visiting her Jane begins to wonder if there's a connection. When they locate the car however, they find direct evidence to the warehouse fire leading the police to think that someone killed the fireman and then set out to eliminate Maura who must have come across some critical information.—garykmcd
- After Maura declares the suspicious death of a fire fighter whose equipment caught fire a murder, she becomes the next target as the killer attempts to run her over, but Maura's adoptive mother Constance Isles pushes her out of the way and lands in ER. The burnt-down denim factory is owned by serially-abusive ex-con Arnold Whistler. With Constance in critical condition, Paddy Doyle comes to protect her and Maura, who tells Jane, who tells in in bed to visiting FBI agent Dean, confidentially as her boyfriend. Jane and Korsak suspect that a firefighter sets the fires, so they inspect his not-amused colleagues. Planning a sting to catch the killer, Jane sends Maura undercover. Paddy shoots the killer, who is about to shoot Maura. Not seeing this, Jane and agent Dean tun in the latter starts a gun fight with Doyle, ending with Jane hitting Paddy, who falls off a platform and hits the ground, dying while uttering 'Hope'.—KGF Vissers
