After spending the morning with Milan, her young lover, Mina, an attractive thirty-year-old, goes to Belgrade airport to pick up her handsome husband Petar, a successful businessman and his colleague, Srdjan. On the way back, she silently listens to them talk about their trip. At home, while Petar is asleep, she disappears. Petar goes to their friends' party as planned, telling them she felt sick. But as she doesn't appear the next day, he just keeps on lying. At work, where his job is to usher the companies' business partners in breaking the law, the pressure grows as a new deal approaches. In the constant summer heat, he can't sleep and spends the nights running. He tries to turn to someone, but both his friends and his family are consumed with their own issues. No one sees he's unwell. His inner demons have been unleashed and maybe he is not as kind as he thought he was, which petrifies him. He won't admit anything's wrong, but his emotions are pouring out and the more he tries to ... Written by Dart Film
This film reminded me of a cult classic "La notte" by Antonioni. "Vlaznost", like "La notte", portrays a high class woman that has lost her love for her husband and is seeking escape from him. But this film, on the other hand, focuses on the husband. We don't see where the wife goes, but it does not matter.
This is a story about a man, in a city, alone.
Does this gives him freedom?
It tells the universal story about capitalism, alienation, patriarchy, and false illusions about family. All through a dreamy like manner by using dissolve transitions, relative slow pace, and cuts to a car POV at a random highway at night, that keeps going and going... Not sure if the latter makes sense but you'll see. The film at moments gives out a poetic vibe, which suits it very nicely.
Its a good film from a country that does not often shine on the map in a film sense, and that's why it deserves to be viewed.
It's worth it.
