Madonna is set to return to the director’s chair. The Golden Globe winner will direct an adaptation of Michaela Deprince’s 2016 memoir “Taking Flight” for MGM, a press release has announced. Deprince co-wrote the Random House book with her mother, Elaine Deprince. Now a soloist at the Dutch National Ballet, Michaela grew up an orphan in war-torn Sierra Leone. She was four when she was adopted by Elaine and moved to the United States.
Written by Camilla Blackett (“Fresh Off the Boat”), the adaptation of “Taking Flight” will depict Deprince’s unconventional journey to becoming a world-famous dancer. This isn’t the first time her story will be told on-screen. She was featured in the 2012 ballet doc “First Position.” Deprince will also be familiar to Beyoncé fans — she appeared in “Lemonade.”
