The character to withstand temptation
bkoganbing12 June 2015
A far more realistic but positive view of religion is presented here in King's Faith. It's the story of young Brendan King played by Crawford Wilson who is a young man newly released from juvenile prison where he was saved. Wilson is taken in by James McDaniel late of NYPD Blue and his wife Lynn Whitfield who lost their son who was a police officer presumably for the Rochester, NY PD. The film was shot in and around Rochester and one of its more conservative suburbs of Greece.

Not believing that Wilson has reformed is detective Christopher Jon Martin. And aiding and abetting that view is Brandon Correa who was one of Wilson's gang running buddies back in the day. Correa has his own reasons for wanting Wilson back in the old life.

In the end Wilson does find he has the character to withstand temptation though he goes through some nasty trials.

King's Faith is a Christian film that lays off the heavy duty preaching and is placed in a realistic setting. The ensemble cast is good and sincere. I'd recommend it for more than church audiences although it is flawed in one respect. No way did Crawford Wilson do any decent amount of time and still be of an age to go back into high school and graduate.

Finally, something worth watching.
countryshack28 October 2014
"When eighteen-year-old Brendan King attempts to leave his turbulent gang life behind him, his past continues to threaten his new-found faith, family, and future." That is the writeup that we read before seeing the movie and we had a feeling that it was going to be the usual Hollywood trash that is so prevalent today. Loud bass rap, half dressed women, tons of sex and drugs, and absolutely no real dialog or story. But we decided to give it a quick look, because of some reviews, to see if it might be a diamond in the ruff. Thank God we did and a diamond we did find. Excellent movie that kept us engaged the entire hour and 45 minutes. You just never knew for sure what direction the story would take and that kept us glued. Well worth watching! There is no doubt in our minds that whoever watches this movie and doesn't think that it was a pleasure to watch are the same people that rooted for Darth Vader;)

Rent or buy it and watch it....Especially if you have teens or preteens in your life. Excellent to discuss afterwords.

Juvenile ex-delinquent attracts suspicion, fake reviews
floraposteschild11 December 2016
What happens when a black delinquent teen turns from crime, finds God, and goes to a high school populated almost exclusively by wealthy, white evangelists? Except that he's cast as a pretty, white 30-year- old, who can't act? and the nature of whose delinquency remains mysterious, since this is a Christian film, and the writers are out of touch with reality? Tepid hi-jinks is what! Thrill as teenagers, in a field trip to a "rough" (i.e. black) neighbourhood, clean up a crack house by setting the furniture straight. There are no stakes, only rudimentary characters and no plot. Someone likes this film, though. I can't help but notice that all the reviewers giving King's Faith ten stars have only reviewed this film. And the lead review (how is that chosen, anyway?) openly admits to working on the film.

Excellent Movie
brandonevers60916 July 2014
I really enjoyed this movie. It touches the heart with a great message of about keeping your faith. Eighteen year old Brendan King finds a relationship with God while serving time after the police arrested him in a drug raid. While inside prison he is given a Bible and through it he discovers that the life he was leading on the outside was all wrong. It shows him a path to a new life. Upon his release, he is given one more chance with a new foster family. But keeping his faith once he regains his freedom is a challenge as new opportunities, new friends, and a new future clash directly with old temptations, old friends and a past that he can't seem to escape. Wonderfully acted, very inspirational, with real life situations. This movie is not just for believers. I would highly recommend everyone, from young to old, to watch this film. It'll make you think about your choices and leave you with a powerful message of hope. A must for teens and youth groups.

On my top ten Worst movie list
aidenmcfaull9 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Kings faith is quite possibly the worst film I have ever had the displeasure of watching. While many say that this film has a powerful and commanding message, the sub-par to terrible acting, overly generic story-line, and downright dumb production and plot mistakes completely dumbs down and destroys the so called powerful message displayed in this film. This film contains next to no spiritual journey, instead being replaced with the whole Jesus will provide message, which is great but this movie supply's no development to this point. Brendan (the main character) is a bad boy who goes to prison and finds Jesus and while that's a fantastic message to the world the lack of insight into this development completely removes any connection I might have had with Brendan, he's just in turbo Christian mode from the get go. This films only redeeming feature was the shovel fight near the end of the film as it was so stupid, it was funny. This film is terrible even as far as Christian Films are concerned. Generic plot, terrible acting, and badly constructed characters. Bad Film.

A religious film that more than just its heavy-handed themes.
StevePulaski30 March 2014
King's Faith doesn't exhibit the tired traits of oppressive religious themes nor melodramatic preachiness like past films of its genre, and because of that, spends more time effectively developing several characters we come to like, or at least have the ability to root for, by the film's conclusion. Too often do these stories from films of the religious genre bear fascinating narratives of great potential only to discard them for hamfisted morals and second-rate drama that does nothing for the film as a whole. It just preaches to the choir who was going to like it no matter what.

King's Faith isn't a complete three-sixty from the genre's ideas and shortcomings, but it does provide for an example more along the lines of the Kendrick brothers' well-done Courageous than it does Darrel Campbell and Kevin McAfee's dreaded Last Ounce of Courage. The film centers around Brendan King (Crawford Wilson), a well-meaning but very troubled kid who joined a gang at a young age and is still reeling from its effects today. Brendan has had countless run-ins with the law and has found himself with a laundry list of offenses ranging from minor to major to even a stack of misdemeanors for all his gang-related activity.

Brendan had an alcoholic mother who died, a father he never knew, and no siblings, rendering him a child taken under the wings of foster care and foster parents. He is finally adopted by a kind black couple and taken under the wing by his father-figure Mike (James McDaniel), both god-fearing individuals who are said to "have never taken a shortcut in their life." In the midst of finding himself harassed by local law enforcement, Brendan makes a name for himself around town after saving his school's homecoming queen from her burning car after it careened off the road. The queen is Natalie (Kayla Compton), your average high schooler with something of a shady past, a complicated relationship, but a girl equipped with a big heart. She becomes friends with Brendan, along with several others, who eventually encourage him to rebuild and remodel a dilapidated building downtown into a rehabilitation center for kids who have seen oppressively bleak times due to drugs, gangs, or what-have-you.

The trouble brewing in the neighborhood doesn't come from Brendan, like public perception would believe, but the gang Brendan left, led by Eli (Brandon Correa), who claims the gang is family when they operate more like a cult. With them constantly butting into his life and the lives of his close friends, as well as a persistent investigator just waiting for his slightest misstep so that he can add him to the list of statistics, Brendan is burdened with much more stress than one should be able to handle at his age. I mean, we don't even see what Brendan is learning at school either. I'm sure potential classes like trigonometry and physics aren't treating him so kindly either.

But Brendan has one thing close to him that not many do and that is the power and influence of the almighty God, bestowed upon him by his guardian Mike, who finds ways to give the kid a much-needed lesson in morality, much like King's Faith attempts to do for us. As Christian films have told me time and time again, the only person who really matters in life is God and he'll carry you through these tribulations with great caution and care for you or something along those lines. I don't know; his plans and duties seem to change with every instance.

The religious aspect actually finds itself to be absent at some points in the film. Sometimes ten minutes go by without the mention of any biblical characters. This is quite the achievement for a film of Christian cinema, as too many find the need to name-drop God with everything they say. It's true King's Faith is guilty of biblical name dropping here and there, but at least it doesn't go out of its way to incorporate God into every scene in some way, shape, or form, and at least it doesn't detour to find some way to say how people who take a secular approach to life are immoral heathens while religion or devotion to a holy book automatically makes one a righteous, morally-aware person.

This is because King's Faith knows that real-life situations, moderately-intense and interesting drama, and characters that feel ejected from real life win over tired affirmation of ideas. Every now and then, a film boasting heavy Christian ideology will turn up in a theater near me, and I can't help but find them to be - like most political documentaries - an exercise in preaching to the choir. Most showings of films from both respective genres probably conclude with audience members praising the quality of the film they just saw and how they "really wish" people on the opposite political or religious spectrum would see them and get the real picture on how life really works. The thought - in both cases, to be fair - sends shivers down my spine.

King's Faith at least has interesting characters and a naturally convincing scenario to levy its inclusion of themes that come across with a heavier-hand. It also bears a heartwarming performance by its lead Wilson, who I foresee getting hopefully) more mainstream recognition, as well as competent directing and co-writing (with Paul Root) by the project's ringleader Nicholas Dibella. This is one of the first religious films that I've seen that I find myself recommending to people who aren't solely devoted to their faith; getting them to seek this one out, however, will prove to be a challenge.

Starring: Crawford Wilson, James McDonald, Kayla Compton, and Brandon Correa. Directed by: Nicholas Dibella.

Pointless
sergius19704 December 2021
This was potentially a good if unoriginal storyline; ex-jailbird trying to break with his past, and (I think) a particularly Christian dilemma; a conflict of loyalties. If this last was the purpose it wasn't clear.

The script and characters are simplistic, and I can't see what the writers were trying to say from either a Christian perspective or any. We learn nothing about the Christian Faith or what Faith actually means.

Wilson's easy on the eye, but slow to be of any interest. He was also surprisingly well-groomed, articulate and able for an alleged jailbird.

Most tragically of all the scriptwriters managed to make Wilson's gang buddies look rather more interesting than the two-dimensional churchgoers.

These are not particularly talented scriptwriters and -without questioning their faith - one wonders how much understanding they really have about their own religion. A missed opportunity

It does however raise the question; why are contemporary Christian movies so bland?

One of the best Christian movies I'd never heard of
towibabe6 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Four things I really loved about this movie:

1. Race was never an issue. EVER. Instead of the stereotypical tough black kid from a gang with a white foster family, they switched it around and it was never even obvious, showing that we're all human, we all make mistakes, and we can all also be caring and kind people, which has nothing to do with the color of our skin.

2. The Christians were never over-the-top goody goody characters, and neither were the "bad guys" over-the-top, loud and obnoxious. They were real human beings with different backgrounds and different problems.

3. The music actually fit the scenes and never blew me out of my chair from the volume change, which seems to be a requirement for movies anymore.

4: It had a hopeful ending, but it didn't end with a pretty bow tied up nice and neat. These were people who had faith in Jesus so they could face the problems in their life, not people who had a fairy-tale happily-ever-after life because they believed in Jesus.

Just a warning for younger kids and those of us who are sensitive to violence, this film did have pretty intense flash-back scenes which included blood, one of which happens at the very beginning of the film. Otherwise there was really no objectionable content for anyone over 13.

Hope this was helpful, God bless!

Loved this film!

It is about time that we have the chance to bring our families to a film with such a great message. The actors did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. The story line was very relevant for the times without being "cheesey". With all the different relationships and struggles going on, I think that viewers of all ages can find something to relate to in this movie. What a beautiful backdrop for the film, gotta love Rochester, NY. I encourage people to support films like this so that more are made in the future. Thank you "Faith Street Films" for creating and sharing such a wonderful story.

The Best Movie This Year
canadytamatha28 April 2013
I feel that this is the best movie I have come across this year. With so many movie's with fictional character's were is the hope that we don't have to live in the land of make believe that real problems and situation's can be address with hope and solution's. This movie has a strong message it will definitely plant a seed for change in this world of corruption and disaster. It empowers you to be able to make a positive choice between right and wrong. We finally know that we have choices and we have the power to exercise those choices no matter how the cards stack up against us. No this movie didn't make 195million dollars out the gate, but as we know money isn't everything. This movie is priceless for what it has to offer our children and our community. It empowers our youth to make better choices and no matter how hard life seems , it can get better with time and with God.

Excellent Faith Filled Powerful Overcoming Transformational Movie!
aronson-475-8150401 July 2013
Fabulous Movie!!!

Well worth your time to see this movie - and you'll want to see it more than once! Family values, God talk, and Scripture quoted from the big Screen. We recommend this movie to all families, esp with teens. It does a great job of portraying what teens and families in our time are going through, and how even when doubting, true faith overcomes. King's Faith definitely shows that a person with faith CAN overcome their past, do what is needed in the present, and look forward with HOPE to the future. Jer. 29:11 - All the characters of the movie are well done, and we are very grateful to Faith Street Productions and Nicolas DiBella for creating and producing this film.

All thumbs up from Sedona AZ.

Great Message for Audiences of all Ages
kzingaro25 June 2013
I thought it had a great story line and would appeal to a wide audience of all different ages and backgrounds. It is relevant to today's issues, well-written, cinematography was strong, musical score was well done and the acting was definitely stronger in the more seasoned actors and the lead Brendan. I especially enjoyed the acting of Brendan's former gang member and friend, Rish, very commanding! Good story with an equally powerful message, God is present and with us whenever we need him; all we need to do is ask. It is a good film for parents to take their children to with an opportunity to open the discussions around some sensitive issues in today's society. It also allows parents a chance to talk about their own faith and the role god has played in their lives when they have faced adversity and double. Some scenes could be scary for smaller children so parent discretion is advised. Well worth your time and money.

Worth the Watch!
newlifeintegrity22 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those movies that is definitely worth watching. Excellent story, acting and directing. Characters are well-developed to engage the audience.

Crawford Wilson, who plays Brendan King, does a remarkable job playing a troubled young man who turned to Christ while in prison, yet struggles with the haunting memories of his past and the former gang members who want him back.

James McDaniel and Lynn Whitfield play Mike and Vanessa Stubbs, who take in Brendan under their foster care and do an excellent job portraying their conflicting opinion of the once wayward ex-con.

Kayla Compton, likewise, does a great job as Natalie, a very popular school girl, who is tormented by her own hidden past.

All the supporting cast was equally endearing.

Well done! It certainly has our endorsement.

Story of redemption by God's grace
Leanne-811-4368297 October 2013
What a great movie!! The plot was great, the acting was excellent and message is life changing! I recommend this movie for everyone. All age groups will take something away from this film. This is a Christian film and the story is one of redemption. A common theme we can all relate to. I plan on purchasing several copies of the DVD to give as Christmas gifts to believers and non-believers. Great movie to watch in a group as there is something for everyone. I have watched it several times and enjoy it more every time. I recommend it to everyone. The movie was filmed in Rochester NY, my home town and it was great to see familiar sights and extras on the big screen.

Stunning movie
dorothyaladenika12 January 2015
This film was so good, I would rate it as one of the very best Christian films I have seen for a very long time. Moving story, great acting, fast paced, loved every minute of it. Highly recommend it!! You will not regret watching this title. Lynn Whitfield's (Vanessa) and James McDaniel's (Mike) acting was outstanding, as well as Crawford Wilson's (Brendan) and Kayla Compton's (Natalie). Brilliant, can't rate it high enough. I can't fault a single thing in this film and I can be quite critical at times. Brendan's journey is packed with twists and turns but I loved how he kept pressing on and even trying to help others while working his own life out. I loved the portray of how teens who were Christian were so driven to try and make an impact in the world and do something to invest into the run down neighbourhood of their town.

Outstanding, real life stuff. I have lived close enough to know.

Warning: Spoilers
As a pastor at a Youth Treatment center in Ohio this movie really hit home with me. We have boys who have spent almost their entire lives in and out of treatment facilities, detention centers and foster homes. They are all looking for something but more importantly someone who will care about them. The movie really touched a chord with me. There truly is a way out for these boys and that way is the Way, Jesus Christ. I have seen it happen again and again. Real lives in real messes finding the real answer. Loved the movie because of its component of reality. Keep making films like this that have a real chance of transforming lives.

Fantastic Movie for Teens and Adults
irisheyes23811 October 2013
I love this movie. I thought it sent a good message to the audience how just because you made a mistake once, doesn't mean you have to continue making mistakes the rest of your life. I think all families should see this. I am not giving this move an 8 just because I helped with it, I truly think it deserves an 8 rating. This movie touched me inside like no other just due to the emotions the characters showed. I won't say much more so not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it. I would definitely suggest all see it. The actors did awesome in a short time that they had to learn their lines, and get it recorded. This film was a success due to hard working dedicated volunteers that helped behind the scenes. This film could not have done it with out the outside help. I never knew how much went into a movie till I helped with this on.

Awesome true to life journey of what God wants to do in your life.
southfam_71728 October 2013
Thank you Nick for furthering the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Especially in this day and age where so many young people haven't heard His name except in cussing, it was great to show how He can and will work in the hearts and lives of anyone seeking Him. The Bible is the way to learn of, accept and grow in the Lord as the movie portrayed. So many people young and old are struggling to do right in their own strength and in the way they think is right, but God's way is the only way He will accept. There are people hurting and dealing with pain and don't know how to handle it but Jesus Christ is the only answer to ALL questions. As you invest your lives in others who are hurting He will show you the way out of your pain and into His Everlasting Arms of grace and mercy.

A true inspiring story
minunimion12 December 2022
It was a great movie. Really well acted and directed. An inspiring true story that many of us don't know how that might be. Sometimes we live in our comfortable houses with the heating on, all the comforts and a good family, but many times it's not like that and it happens that we wonder why we can't be rich, happy, healthy with our soulmate and a wonderful family? The answer won't be accepted by many of us, but it's what I have, I feel, I know... we are not connected with us and even if He is close to us, He won't do interfere with our lives. The path to God is the only thing that all of us should aspire, but unfortunately it's not what many people are interested with. Perhaps one day, they'll understand, perhaps not. Everyone has to choose their path as they feel... full of obstacles following the darkness, full of abundance, following the Light. It's up to us, we have the free will.

Despite what I said, I'm not on the right path yet, because believing and doubting don't work together and many times I don't know what to do. Anyway I'll never give up.

I abandoned God once, it won't happen again.

I'm not telling anything about this movie, you have to decide for yourself after watching it.

Highly recommended if you believe that God exist, otherwise give it a look, who knows...
