Since Will thinks Vocal Adrenaline will back with a vengeance after placing second last year he won't be directing "West Side Story," the musical this year. He is also instituting mandatory "Booty Camp" for people like Finn, Puck, Kurt and Mercedes. Mike will serve as Will's assistant. He announces that Emma and Beiste will co-direct the musical along with Artie.
Former Vocal Adrenaline director/Rachel's biological mother Shelby Corcoran surprised Will with news that she is now a part-time teacher at the school. She was hired after Sugar Motta's father made a huge donation to the school under the condition she start a second show choir group that features his daughter, who is unable to sing. She promises Will she'll stay away from his kids and plans to reach out to Rachel. Will seems to like the competition.
Sue talks to Quinn about being lost. She offers a chance to get back at Glee if she helps her by staring in a campaign video.
Kurt thinks Brittany's ideas are a little too gay. He's interested in black-and-white posters with him in a suit, mirroring Judy Garland.
Puck brings Quinn to see Shelby. She talks to Quinn about missing the milestones in Rachel's life and wanted to make sure she didn't make the same mistake again with Beth. She wants Quinn to get to know her biological daughter but only if she cleans up her act. Quinn gets angry and points that Shelby will never be Beth's mom.
Booty Camp begins with Mike assuring them if they perfect the basic moves they will win nationals. Kurt and Blaine talk about who will play the lead in this year's musical. Kurt seems to realize Blaine would be better for the part while Blaine is feeling guilty about taking the lead from a senior.
Shelby challenges Rachel not to play it safe with her audition. She sings "Somewhere" (from Amor sin barreras (1961)) with Shelby joining in and helping her in a dream sequence. The co-directors love it.
Quinn's video for Sue is basically her saying that the arts are what ruined her life. Part of that is her confronting Will and telling him she'll never come back to glee club. Will goes on the offensive, reminding her what Glee did for her and telling her to "grow up."
Puck shows up at Shelby's place. He says he wants to be part of Beth's life but she doesn't like him dropping by unannounced. Beth wakes up and Puck notices how much the baby looks like Quinn. Puck says he'll do anything to prove he's ready to be in her life.
Kurt auditions for the "West Side Story" lead, Tony. He performs Barbara Streisand's "I'm the Greatest Star" (from Funny Girl: Chica rara (1968)), complete with Sai swords (something Colfer is in reality very talented at). The directors seems to love it.
Puck tells Quinn she needs to drop the Skank act. He tells her Beth is "perfect" and tells her the baby needs her mother in her life.
The directors discuss the leads with Kurt eavesdropping outside the window. Beiste and Artie both think Kurt is too delicate for the role of Tony.
Kurt shows up at school and is horrified to see Brittany has decorated the school with pink and rainbow unicorn posters. He tells her to stop and grabs Rachel to help him put together another audition. Santana tells Brittany that she is the unicorn.
Kurt tells the directors he wants to show them the "masculine intensity" he can bring to the part. He reads from "Romeo and Juliet", the play upon which "West Side Story" is based. Beiste and Artie struggle not to laugh. Even Rachel starts to laugh when Kurt tries to kiss her and he storms out.
Shelby is working with Sugar, who doesn't seem to understand how terrible her singing voice really is. Quinn comes in after Sugar leaves and the two talk about motherhood and the sacrifices that come with the job. Shelby wants her to find herself, starting by not punishing herself for what she did when she was younger. Shelby shows her a picture of Beth and Quinn breaks down.
Rachel talks to Finn about trying out for Tony. He doesn't think he'll have the time. She also mentions him auditioning for NYADA. Kurt tells Burt he's upset about not fitting the model of most male leads. Burt tells him a unicorn without a horn is a horse.
Finn is having trouble at Booty Camp with his steps. Wills says he believes in him and Finn seems to have a breakthrough. Quinn shows up wearing normal clothes, asking to join in. They welcome her with open arms. Puck says he's proud of her and Quinn says she's basically doing what she thinks she has to do to get full custody of Beth. Puck looks stunned.
Will tells Sue about Quinn being back in Glee. Sue plans on painting this in her campaign as a relapse. She's nine points up and is now in first place in the polls. Sue leaves and Beiste suggests finding someone to run against her, the "anti-Sue", giving Will an idea.
Kurt tells Brittany she was right about him needing to celebrate who he is. She tells Kurt that she's decided to run herself.
Blaine auditions with "Something's Coming" (from Amor sin barreras (1961)). He absolutely kills it and the directors eating out of his hand from the first note. Kurt watches from the back. Despite not putting Tony down as one of the roles he'd like to audition for, Artie asks if he'll read for the lead. Blaine is speechless and Kurt ducks out of the auditorium as the episode ends.
