Chewing gum . A dog leash. An Australia shaped stain on the wall. A bent traffic light... Each of these elements has its own story, even though all of them together can create a new plot.Chewing gum . A dog leash. An Australia shaped stain on the wall. A bent traffic light... Nice build-up even if the conclusion is less satisfying and a bit too straightforward
A series of items and events in a small area of a city; are they connected? The narrator takes us through each one in order to ultimately tell the story – although, OK, in fairness he probably gives us more detail than he really needs to.

This Spanish short film consists of two parts. The first part sees the basic building blocks being put in place to then tell the story of how a 50 Euro note ended up on the pavement. Involving a dog leash, a stain on a wall, a discarded piece of chewing gum and many other things, all the pieces are put in place before we get to see events unfold. This side of the film is very nicely done with detailed animation of maps, focus on tiny detail and a narrator nearly breathless with excitement and himself admitting that maybe he is getting distracted by the detail a little too much. This side is energetic and enjoyable for its style and delivery but ironically enough it is this side which introduces the weakness in the film.

This comes in the final few minutes where we get the scene played out and, frankly, it is disappointingly ordinary. Played in slow motion it does have flair and style and action, but it just seems so straightforward when silently laid out right next to the energy and passion of what had gone before. It is not quite this bad but it is a stepdown and I was disappointed that the ending was not stronger and more linked to the great narration and style of the first half – because when it ended on the second part's style, I felt like I missed the original approach and would have liked it back to tie things together again. It is still an enjoyable and well made short film, just a shame it was not as good in the second act as it was in the first.
