MPAA Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, and for some thematic material

Sex & Nudity

  • Katniss wakes up in the middle of the night and leaves her room and crawls into Peeta's bed with him. He embraces her. Nothing more.

Violence & Gore

  • A young woman is shot and she falls to the ground. The shooting is seen in close-up. We later see her swollen stomach.
  • A building in the distance is blown up, killing two women inside.
  • A young man shoves an older man into a wave of tar; a barbed wire net pops out of the tar, yanks him up and leaves him hanging. We hear the clink of the metal blades and his quick shriek of pain as it freezes in the air. A little later the distended body covered with since-cooled tar is seen hanging, and another similar body in the background.
  • Odd lizard-like mutations called 'mutts' attack several characters. One man is jumped by the mutts and dragged into the water; he is heard screaming as his allies run away. A woman is also tackled and killed by the mutts as another woman fires an explosive arrow at the creatures causing a huge explosion.
  • A man is chased by several mutts as his friends watch from a ladder above. He is bitten on the shoulder and dragged into knee-deep water; more mutts jump in after him and we see him roar in pain, and blood spurts on a nearby wall. A friend sets off an explosion to end his gruesome pain.
  • A man loses his legs in an explosion - some blood and gore, and we see the pain on his face as he dies.
  • A young woman shoots a government official straight through the heart - the body falls off a stage and we see blood pouring down stone slabs.
  • A man often coughing up blood onto tissues eventually dies from a combination of getting beat up by a crowd and an intense laughing fit, resulting in him choking to death on his own blood.
  • Children are seen reaching up for small parachutes announced as gifts and medicine, but are in fact bombs that explode when touched. We also see another character on the periphery burned from the explosions. Children are seen being killed in close-up. Albeit brief, lots of carnage and some injury detail is depicted.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A young woman abuses morphine in the beginning of the movie.
  • Adults are seen drinking. One man has his drink poisoned - he collapses with head veins bulging and dying sounds; he eventually dies.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Several intense scenes and unsettling images involving war, death and mutts.
