Storyline

As Enzo Ferrari's fast Rosso-Corsa racing cars dominate the mid-1960s motorsport world, the American car designer, Carroll Shelby, is forced to retire after winning the demanding 1959 '24 Hours of Le Mans' endurance race. But, before long, an unexpected proposition by the Vice President of Henry Ford's motor company, Lee Iacocca, will offer an opportunity to beat the Italians at their own game. Now, under those pressing circumstances, the British sports car driver and racing engineer, Ken Miles, reluctantly agrees to lend a hand and improve the firm's image, as Ford's race team has less than ninety days to rewrite history. As a result, the non-conformist duo comes up with the mighty Ford GT40 Mk I high-performance racing car. Can Shelby and Miles break Ferrari's streak? Written by Nick Riganas

Trivia

As Ken Miles cruises to glory in the 1966 Le Mans, his wife, Mollie (Caitriona Balfe), and young son, Peter (Noah Jupe), watch the race via a television broadcast on their small, quaint, black-and-white, vintage mid-century TV set. Superimposed words on the screen tell viewers that the race is being piped to American television "via satellite," but there's just no way that happened. The first live, international satellite broadcast, a variety show called Our World (which featured The Beatles playing "All You Need is Love"), was staged in 1967, which obviously went down after the 1966 Le Mans race. Quotes

[Henry II starts crying after Shelby gives him a ride in the Ford GT40 Mk II]
Carroll Shelby: Mr. Ford? Are you okay?
[Henry II continues to sob]
Carroll Shelby: Mr. Ford? You all right?
Henry Ford II: I had no idea.
[pause]
Henry Ford II: I had no idea. I wish my daddy... He were alive to see this. To feel this.
Carroll Shelby: This is not a machine that just anybody can get in and easily control.
Henry Ford II: Absolutely not. I had no idea.
Carroll Shelby: Now, you want to win Le Mans. You really want to take first place, Ken Miles is the man to do it.

Movie keeps you at 7000 rpm
23 November 2019 | by mohdshafiulhaqueSee all my reviews

Ford V Ferrari is one of the best movies I've seen this year, and for someone who has little interest in cars besides minivans and SUVs, that's saying a lot. Just like the race cars produced by its namesakes, Ford v. Ferrari is sleek and fast; a powerful and expensive machine. A supremely well-balanced combination of corporate rivalry, on-track competitiveness and human drama.
