Fun Look Back at Stand By Me
Stand by Me 25 Years Later: A Picture-in-Picture Commentary Retrospective (2011)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
This here is basically an audio commentary but there's a camera set up to capture Rob Reiner, Wil Wheaton and Corey Feldman as they discuss the film STAND BY ME. The one "catch" to this is that the cameras were rolling as Reiner and Feldman walked into the studio where Wheaton was sitting and waiting. If your'e a fan of the film then you'll get a kick out of the three being re-united for the first time in decades and it was pretty fun seeing their reaction to be back together.
As far as the commentary goes, there's a lot of great information to be found on it including Reiner pointing out a few mistakes in the film. There are some great stories told throughout the track as all three men do a great job at keeping the track going with fun information. There are some nice tributes to River Phoenix as well as stories about how the four boys were cast as well as the supporting players. We also get some pretty good stories dealing with what it was like in the small town after filming was complete. This, sadly, shines a light on various drug issues that Feldman and Phoenix would have.
If you're a fan of the film then there's no question that you're going to love this. In all honesty, I wish this had lasted longer and collected some of the stuff after the movie. The best moments here are the stuff before the commentary when the three are catching up and enjoying seeing each other.
