All of the characters who are officers in the Portuguese military are named after birds ( Capitão Falcão, Puto Perdiz, General Gaivota). Even Professor Peninha's name is directly related to birds ( Peninha is Portuguese for little feather)

The pilot for the Capitão Falcão TV show premiered as a surprise at the MOTELx film fest opening nigh. The entire room was laughing during the full lengh of the pilot and as the credits rolled it received a standing ovation.

The character Major Alberto, that Capitão Falcão meets in prison, is an homage to Major Alvega, the portuguese translation of iconic WWII comic book british airforce pilot "Battler Britton". He is played by Ricardo Carriço, which played the title character in the 90's cult TV show Major Alvega.
