This is the first season premiere without an appearance by or direct reference to Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, as well as the first episode in which he does not appear in the intro. It also marks the first time that an actor other than Harmon (Sean Murray) playing a character who is not the lead agent of the MCRT reads the line "Previously on NCIS" and is top-billed first in the opening credits.

Goofs
Kasey says that the Interpol notice for Dimitri Lopuchin states that he is wanted and at large, whereabouts unknown. However when the notice is shown on the screen it clearly states under the whereabouts section that he has been dead since 2012, but no one seems to notice this or mention it. In fact they go to all the trouble of contacting an old friend of Ernie's from the NSA to learn Lopuchin's whereabouts and wait up all night to hear back from Ernie's contact, just to get a classified NSA notice stating that Lopuchin is dead, listing the same details as the Interpol notice.

Cliffhanger

Not a great episode, a lot of just running around and you don't really get very far in the story plus on top of that when they finally move along in the story it's a fricken cliffhanger. The only way to finish this episode storyline is to watch NCIS Hawaii season 2 episode 1 I don't like being forced to watch a show I don't watch or know anything about to finish the storyline from this episode.

I am fine with cross over episodes but finish the story. Do not make someone watch a different show. I know none of these characters and it not something I want to watch one episode of.

The next episode in NCIS has zero mentions of the storyline from the premier. This was clearly a stunt to try and make people watch the weak spin off series NCIS Hawaii.
