Sex & Nudity
-
- A slave is "inspected" by a woman who feels his behind and says that it is firm. She then enquires about his "weaponry" and is told she has to pay to see it.
- Some women wear revealing clothes, low-cut dresses revealing cleavage etc
Violence & Gore
-
- During a gladiator fight, you can see bloody puddles and bodies covered in blood
- A man's throat is cut open during a fight
- A young boy's entire tribe is massacred, including a scene where his mother is killed before his eyes. Later he sees the bodies of his tribesmen hanged upside down from a tree.
- A slave bites off the fingers of another slave who is trying to drown him. Later we can see the bloody stumps of his fingers.
- Several scenes of gladiatorial fights resulting in dozens of slaves and soldiers being killed. Though hardly any blood is seen, the killings are quite violent. Stabbings, slitting of throats and hacking off of arms is shown.
- A man is stabbed to death in a cold blooded murder.
- A riot ensues as the citizens of Pompeii flee from the volcano. A senator trapped within the crowd orders his guards to kill them all, which they proceed to do.
- A man is stabbed by another in a swordfight. But the stabbed man snaps the sword into two and stabs the other in the neck with the broken sword.
Profanity
-
- 1 "bitch", 1 "bloody", 1 "bastard", 2 "damn"s, 1 "prick"
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- Some scenes of people drinking wine
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- The opening scene of the film - where an entire tribe is massacred is very upsetting.
- A scene where the leader character is whipped is distressing.
- A man euthanizes an injured horse by breaking its neck as it lies on the ground, and a woman assists him by holding the horse down by its shoulder. The point of death is not shown, but the sound of its neck breaking is heard off-screen.
- The eruption of Mount Vesuvius may be too frightening for children
- The fight scenes may be too intense for younger viewers
- Do not rely on the PG13 rating of this movie. It is almost on par with an R rated movie in terms of violence and body count. While nothing graphic is shown, the violence is still quite unsettling.
- The final half an hour of this movie is filled with apocalyptic scenes, with flaming rocks raining from the volcano and destoying buildings, tidal waves from the sea mowing down everything in their path and widespread death and destruction. Young viewers may find it disturbing.
Spoilers
Sex & Nudity
- The lead characters kiss. -which has nothing to do with sex or nudity
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- The last scene involves the two main characters embracing each other as they are consumed by flames, we then see their molded bodies lying next to each other (this scene is very emotional, because Milo and Cassia choose to spend eternity together in the afterlife rather than live without each other)
