Unsolved Mysteries (1987)
November 29, 1987
Out of the series first seven "specials", this one here was the four one and the first to be hosted by Robert Shack. The four stories in this episode are extremely entertaining so fans of the series should enjoy them. The first takes a look at the suspicious death of Shannon Davis, a woman whose death was made to look like she fell off a horse but her husband David Davis became a suspect. Glen and Bessie Hyde were a married couple who went rafting down the Colorado River and disappeared. Several rumors were around until decades later when someone claiming to be Bessie said she murdered her husband. The stories of Aileen Conway and Dottie Caylor are also explored.
If you're a fan of the series then you know what to expect. This episode here was the fourth but the first to feature Shack and of course he's a master at the narration duties. It's amazing to see that all of the trademarks are here so early on and that the set-up would pretty much stay the same throughout its run. The best story here is certainly the one dealing with the Hyde couple and the mystery behind what happened to them.
