Outwardly simple, inwardly complex
13 October 2013 | by See all my reviews

Amazingly cogent in its unfettered attempt at contrasting the reconciliation of grief between two disparate generations, this short stop-motion animated gem provokes strong feelings in anyone who's suffered (or even imagined suffering) the unexplainable loss of a loved one. The denouement alone is worth the price of admission; with simple pose holds, the animator translates tenderness and regret with very little outward emoting (clay figures as they are). As with any profound work, the interpretation in the eye of the beholder, but what the film lacks in schmaltzy sentimentality it makes up in genuine verisimilitude.
