- In the rest period, a train takes the ten remaining teams from Broken Hill, Australia back to Sydney, from where they travel to Kurihama, Japan. One team's hopes are shattered when a car crash sends them toward the back of the pack. Some of the teams get down and dirty in a pile of frigid mud at the Detour.—Allister Coots
- Open with last week's winner Zev & Justin learning teams this week will be flying to Tokyo, Japan and find their next clue at a modern-looking parking garage.
As the teams begin looking for plane tickets in Sydney it becomes clear everybody has two options: Fly directly to Tokyo on Qantas and arrive at 6:15am, or go with a Cathay Pacific connection through Hong Kong that arrives 15 minutes earlier. The Cathay Pacific has a three hour window for the connection but several teams seem very wary of risking a second flight.
Zev & Justin and Flight Time & Big Easy both decide to take the Cathay Pacific flight, but find out there are only two seats left. The Globetrotters owe them one so they give up the last two seats. After going back and forth about the best option Mel & Mike and Margie & Luke take the Cathay Pacific flight as well. Ultimately half the teams go with the connecting option: Zev & Justin, Mel & Mike, Margie & Luke, Kent & Vyxsin and Jaime & Cara.
Right on cue the Cathay Pacific flight has engine trouble and the first flight group ends up being delayed 80 minutes. The Qantas flight learns they will be the first flight landing in Tokyo. They get on the ground and sprint to the parking garage. Teams must drive themselves to the Yabusame Dojo in Kamakura and find their next clue.
The first five teams haggle over getting cars from the parking attendant and head on the road.
The second five teams arrive in Tokyo and get their cars.
Several teams have difficulty navigating the streets of Tokyo, Jet & Cord foremost among them.
First to arrive at the dojo are Ron & Christina. They read about this week's Roadblock. One team member dresses as a samurai and learns the proper Yabusame Ritual. Basically they learn form and ritual related to shooting an arrow from atop a slowing spinning wooden horse. Once they hit a target with an arrow they'll get the next clue. Inexplicably Ron is chosen.
Gary & Mallory arrive next and pick Gary to handle the challenge. Ron instantly begins screwing up the simplest aspects of the Roadblock. Flight Time & Big Easy get to the dojo next and Flight Time is picked. Kisha & Jen are next to arrive and select Jen.
Jet & Cord still have no idea where they're going. Neither do four of the teams from the second flight, who are traveling through downtown Tokyo in a four-car caravan.
Zev & Justin get to the dojo and pick Justin. They'e surprised to have made up so much ground after the airplane delay.
Mike & Mel and Margie & Luke decide to part ways with Kent & Vyxsin and Jaime & Cara and look for the dojo on their own.
The first person to finish the Roadblock is Jen. She and Kisha read the next clue, which tells teams to search for the Kintaro Statue in at a nearby railway station.
Justin finished the Roadblock second, followed by Gary. Ron still looks like he has no idea what is going on.
Mel, Kent and Luke's teams are the next to get to the dojo and they are picked to tackle the Roadblock.
Flight Time finishes the Roadblock just before Jet & Cord arrive and pick Jet.
Ron finally completes the Roadblock.
Already in last place, Jaime & Cara clip the side view mirror of another car and have to wait for the police to arrive.
Kent, Luke and Mike struggle with the Roadblock.
Zev & Justin and Gary & Mallory get to the railway station together and read about this week's Detour. Teams pick between two rituals, Prayer of Purity or Frog of Luck. In Purity they take part in a cleansing ritual capped by spending a fully minute underneath a 45 degree water fall. In Luck they strip down to a loincloth and have to dig around in a mud for toy frogs while locals pelt them with clumps of dirt.
Both of the first two teams pick Luck. The Globetrotters and Ron & Christina are next to the station and both select Purity. A few minutes later Kisha & Jen arrive and also select Luck.
Jamie & Cara arrive at the dojo and are pleasantly surprised to see several teams still working on the Roadblock. Luke finishes the challenge, followed soon by Cord, Kent and Mike. Quickly Jamie is the only one left attempting the Roadblock.
The first two teams get their Detour outfits on and start diving for frogs.
Ron & Christina and Flight Time & Big Easy work through the first few steps of the Purity Detour will little trouble.
Margie & Luck and Jet & Cord pick the Luck Detour.
Justin finds the frog and they are firmly in first place. The clue tells them to drive to the Pit Stop, located at a monument to Commodore Perry located in Kurihama. Gary find a frog and they get cleaned up.
Kish & Jen get to the Detour site, not thrilled about their bikini-like outfits.
Kent & Vyxsin and Mel & Mike are the eighth and ninth teams to arrive at the railway station. Both pick the Luck Detour.
Jaime completes the Roadblock.
The Globetrotters finish the Detour just ahead of Ron & Christina. Christina is unable to locate the fanny pack she's been using to store valuables. It appears that the Globetrotters grabbed it by accident on their way up to the changing area, but instead of bringing it back down after realizing their mistake simply left it in the men's area. While Christina wastes time searches the area for the pack the Globetrotters get in their car and leave.
Kisha finds a frog.
Ron locates the fanny pack up in the changing area. They are both upset the Globetrotters didn't bring it back down.
As the temperature drops, Jet & Cord waste no time locating a frog. Several more teams arrive at the Luck Detour site.
Jaime & Cara select the Luck Detour.
Zev & Justin get to Phil in first place and are awarded a trip to Costa Rica.
Vyxsin locates a frog as the sun goes down.
Several teams talk about how cold it is in the mud, with Mel seeming to struggle. Margie finds a frog.
Gary & Mallory finish the leg in second place, just ahead of Flight Time & Big Easy.
On their way to the Detour site Jaime & Cara discuss how they've never been so close to the bottom.
Mike is worried about Mel, who doesn't want to quit.
Ron & Christina are the fourth team to get to Phil. After she tells him about Fannygate, Phil gives Flight Time & Big Easy a 30-minute penalty, moving Ron & Christina into third. With that penalty Kish & Jen are the team with the fourth-best time.
Jet & Cord finish in sixth, as Mike decides to take his father to the car to warm up.
Jaime & Cara start the Detour.
Kent & Vyxsin finish seventh, just ahead of Margie & Luke.
Jamie & Cara rather quickly find a frog. But with Mel & Mike off warming up they are convinced they have lost. Phil surprised them with word they are ninth and still in the race.
This means Mel & Mike finish last, and are eliminated.
