I like Whitney. Like Miranda Hart in the UK, Whitney Cummings is playing herself in a sitcom role, written by herself, which is brave and clearly she has talent for comedy. I see many shades of Friends in the set-piece comedy bits in the program's social group but there is an edgier twist. I relate to and am amused by Whitney's fear of commitment and her comedic self-preservation and taking the mickey of everyone. The other characters are funny and witty and I like the twists of partner mix-ups and sexuality questions brought in. Like other good sitcoms, the comedy is mixed with a bit of heart and the relationship between Whitney and Alex (Cummings and D'Elia) is really cute.
Not so much a fan of Cummings' writing in 2 Broke Girls, and there is shades of "say it loud with a slight grating voice so it's funnier" in this too but I mainly watch this for D'Elia as I think he's fab, and I've enjoyed some of his stand up - especially his brilliant Keanu Reeves impression/skit. I'm sorry this didn't get further series and is currently cancelled but whilst I enjoy it it's not sufficiently different or original perhaps to stand out from the comedy crowd. An enjoyable watch.
