No one wants to relive high school but this show forces us to. Making us understand the importance of the life altering transition of what we call high school is what makes this show beautiful. I'll admit... I was biased and watched it because Selena Gomez produced it but now I love her even more... like that's a thing because she is perfection.
Sexism. Gender roles. Sexuality. 13 Reasons Why puts us in the shoes of characters we don't realize we relate to but draw parallels with them. The show leaves you wanting more and also realizing in some sense we were all bullied and no one gets off the hook. No one has it easy.
I'm not even going to discuss the lighting and camera work of the show because I could go on for days because it's too perfect. The bland colors paired with Clay's constant pale complexion teamed with his curiosity keeps you intrigued. And if you didn't notice that then just stop reading because you don't appreciate art.
Clay?! Are we all him!? Someone afraid to be outspoken and ourselves in high school but at the same time he is the only one that doesn't wear a mask. He wants the facts but is almost too afraid to hear it (literally).
I've never read the book but if it's anything like the show I'll be overnighting it off Amazon.
Cassettes? Selena.... qween. Thank you to the throwback and emphasis on this book. Millions of likes on Instagram doesn't mean she'd produce a great show; her commitment to it does. No one asked her to be perfect she just is and it's for reasons like this show (and that super cute Coca Cola picture... like she made us all want to drink pop). LOVE is seen through the effort put forth making this show.
PARENTS! In my opinion it almost shows a selfish view of adults not understanding their child's life even though they have gone through the process.
This is my first review but I couldn't stop loving this show. You don't have to love my review but take the time to try and appreciate the love and effort put in this show.
