Plot Summary |
A penniless journalist receives a letter informing him that an item is waiting for him at the notary. His surprise is great when he is given an old umbrella. He goes to see an antique dealer who only offers him 2 francs. While he is strolling in a park, a violent downpour begins to fall and two ladies ask him for shelter under his umbrella. Noticing the graceful handle, the youngest asks him if he wouldn't like to sell it because her father is a lover of old things. The journalist accepts and accompanies them home. During the conversation with the father, his daughter pulls on the handle which comes off and discovers a roll of bank notes. It's too much for our unfortunate journalist who, not having eaten, feels unwell. He is immediately invited to lunch. What happens next is easy to guess by seeing how the two young people look at each other.
