Michael B. Jordan to produce and star in hitman thriller The Silver Bear

It looks like Black Panther and Creed star Michael B. Jordan could have another potential franchise on the horizon, with Deadline reporting that the actor has signed on for the lead in The Silver Bear, an adaptation of the book series by Derek Hass.

The film, which has been scripted by Frank Baldwin will explore the formative story of Columbus a man who becomes the most feared and respected hit man in the criminal underworld – an assassin so effective that he becomes what Russian mobsters refer to as a Silver Bear. However, he is forced to face his own nightmarish origins when he’s hired to kill the Speaker of the House, who is currently running for the United States presidency.

Director Shortlist For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Has Leaked

Just today, a report started making the rounds that the bulk of directors being eyed for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are female, and now we’re getting word from SuperBroMovies of some of the names up for consideration.

One of the most famous filmmakers on this list is Jane Campion, creator of the acclaimed series Top of the Lake and director of 1993’s Academy Award-winning The Piano. For a talent you’d more closely associate with franchise fare, however, there’s also S.J. Clarkson, whose résumé includes episodes of Jessica Jones, as well as the upcoming Star Trek 4. In other words, she’s a stranger to neither Marvel nor space travel.

Also on the list is Dee Rees, who’s been earning plaudits this decade for dramas like Mudbound and Pariah, and has recently been working with the likes of Anne Hathaway, Willem Dafoe, and Ben Affleck

Why Rihanna Saying No to the Super Bowl Matters (Column)
From the moment news broke that Maroon 5 was to be this year’s Super Bowl halftime show headliner, it seemed clear that there was something more afoot. After all, this is a performance that typically is viewed by even more people who tune into the game itself. And that game is TV’s marquee event of the year, the one remaining broadcast with the extant power to bring together viewers of all stripes, if only to take in the spectacle. The artists booked usually bring a bit of spectacle themselves. While taking nothing away from the success Adam Levine and his band have enjoyed, there’s a bit of a differential in star wattage between the frontman seen on every episode of “The Voice” and incandescent past Super Bowl stars like Madonna, or Katy Perry, or Bruno Mars, or Beyoncé (twice!).

Or Rihanna. The megastar, whose profile certainly suits that

Marvel Comics Sets Shuri Up To Be The New Black Panther, Could We See This Happen in The McU Films?

For those of you who don’t know, Marvel Comics has given the Black Panther character Shuri her own ongoing series. The first issue of Shuri has been released and it’s leading to a big change with Black Panther.

The comic is setting her up to take on the mantle of Black Panther because with the absence of T’Challa, the women of Wakanda believe the country needs a Black Panther to show that they are strong.

In the story, Shuri is called to a traditional secret of meeting of Wakanda women called the Elephant's Trunk. With Wakanda in trouble, Shuri's mother Queen Ramonda felt she needed to gather together the group again because T'Challa has been missing for a couple weeks.

Despite the fact that he isn't the ruler of Wakanda anymore because Wakanda is a constitutional monarchy now, they still need a Black Panther to represent and protect them.

When Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston Get Together, They Have a Marvel-ous Time

When Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston Get Together, They Have a Marvel-ous Time
We have a lot to thank the Marvel Cinematic Universe for: Kickass female characters like Okoye, Black Widow, Valkyrie, and Captain Marvel. Mark Ruffalo, spoiler king, and prototype Noah Centineo. The soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy 2. All those brilliant Stan Lee cameos. Korg, just in general. Every moment of Black Panther. But personally, I love it the most for keeping my fellow Brits in work and for reuniting two of my favorites, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston.

The two actors rose to fame at a similar speed, so it's no surprise that they've bumped into each other on a number of occasions over the years, both in the UK and the Us. They first shared billing in 2011's War Horse, but it was Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War that brought them back together now that they're part of the Hollywood A-list. The pair always look like

Angela Bassett to Narrate National Geographic Wildlife Special ‘The Flood’ (Exclusive)
Angela Bassett is set to narrate “The Flood,” the upcoming National Geographic documentary special about animals living in the heart of Africa’s Okavango Delta.

Surrounded by the Kalahari Desert, the delta is one of the world’s last great wildernesses, and welcomes leopards, elephants, lions and hippos each year as the great flood returns water to the habitat. As the waters recede, the battle for survival begins.

Bassett scored an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and also starred as Queen Ramonda in “Black Panther.” On TV she stars in Fox cop procedural “9-1-1.”

“I found the stories of these resilient, beautiful animals so fascinating and relatable,” Bassett said. “I hope that viewers are drawn into this rarely seen kingdom in a way that inspires them to help protect it for years to come.”

Germany Expands Rebate System for VFX Sector

Germany’s VFX sector is celebrating newly revamped guidelines of the country’s main subsidy program, which make it possible for big-budget animated and visual effects-heavy projects to secure rebates as high as 45% when they meet new minimum spend requirements.

The new rules do away with requirements that films have to be physically shot in-country to qualify for the German Federal Film Fund (Dfff) rebate incentive program. The two-tier Dfff system includes a funding pool, known as Dfff II, that is specifically aimed at international co-productions and big-budget domestic films.

Germany’s muscular VFX industry has for years lobbied for inclusion in the program, which until now has focused on production companies and physical on-location shoots. Instead of being linked to physical shoots, the new regulations require a simple €2 million ($2.3 million) spend in order to qualify for the Dfff II’s 25% rebate.

How Much Oscar Potential Does A Star Is Born Actually Have? Let's Break It Down

How Much Oscar Potential Does A Star Is Born Actually Have? Let's Break It Down
It's a Hollywood tale as old as time: a film generates strong buzz on the festival circuit for months, only to falter when it actually comes time for Oscar nominations. Despite receiving standing ovations at festivals like Tiff (2016's The Birth of a Nation) or earning praise for dramatic performances (2017's Stronger), some films just can't leap all the necessary hurdles required to make it into the race for an Oscar. Will the same happen to A Star Is Born?

Bradley Cooper's long-gestating project premiered on Oct. 4 to rave reviews for both his and costar Lady Gaga's performances, as well as the film's undeniably strong soundtrack. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter recently shared that at the official Academy screening of the movie for La-based members, so many people showed up that some had to be turned away at the door. The Academy members who did see it reportedly

Oscar for Killmonger? Top 4 reasons Michael B. Jordan (‘Black Panther’) could be a contender

Oscar for Killmonger? Top 4 reasons Michael B. Jordan (‘Black Panther’) could be a contender
Comic book movies aren’t usually Oscar bait, but “Black Panther” could change that this year. The size and demographics of the motion picture academy are gradually expanding, and we’ve seen genre movies contend in top categories in recent years like “Avatar” (2009), “Mad Max: Fury Road” (2015) and “Get Out” (2017). But while “Black Panther” has looked like a potential Best Picture contender almost since its release (it currently ranks in the top 10 in our odds), what about for acting?

Among the cast members, Michael B. Jordan probably stands the best chance at the Oscars for his role as villain Erik Killmonger. In fact, six of the Expert journalists we’ve polled think he’ll be nominated, and two of them even think he’ll win: Claudia Puig (Kpcc) and Glenn Whipp (La Times). Here are four reasons why I think they might be on the right track.
