Storyline

FOLLOW THE LEADER charts the lives of sixteen-year-old high school class presidents Ben (The Loyalist from Virginia), D.J. (The Believer from Massachusetts) and Nick (The Idealist from Pennsylvania) - three traditional boys who plan to continue leading their peers as President someday. Over three life-changing years, they split into Republican, Democratic and Independent camps as each reconsiders his lofty ambitions. Growing up at a critical moment for America as well, their lives also force us all to rethink our assumptions about tomorrow's leaders, the impact of 9/11 on them, and the political views of the millennial generation...which are more complex (and more conservative) than most people currently believe. As shocking as "Jesus Camp," as revealing as "American Teen," and as funny as "Spellbound" - FOLLOW THE LEADER is the true story of what change means for three young leaders who feel destined to lead the world. Fascinating look at young conservatives
6 March 2012 | by CurtHerzstarkSee all my reviews

This film was just recently broadcast on Swedish public service network. This documentary depicts three young conservative teenagers involved in local politics.

Very idealistic and patriotic at first but as the film follows them, they get more and more disillusioned with the political game, process and candidates.

What is so interesting about these young people is their naivety, idealism and also the fact that they really try to make change in various ways.

Anyone who says that young people aren't interested in politics should see this film because it kills a lot of the criticism aimed at the younger generations.

Hardest part is seeing how these guys struggle trying to find a better option when they realize how hard the realities of the political machine really is.

So, if you want to see an interesting documentary about young political people, then see this.

Afterwards, try to get hold of Choose Connor (2007)a brilliant political satire that shows another darker side of young political idealism.
