Heavily entranced by Conrad Chandler's potent serum, Orwell struggles to fight off the physiological and mental effects of the strong dose. Meanwhile, Netta's strange loyalty to The Lich is clarified. In a sedated, weak state, Orwell drifts between reality and fantasy sequences, which slowly reveal her history and past.

The accounts of Alexander III of Macedon's death vary, some say he was sick for 14 days others say 11 days, some say fever others gastric distress.
