With its need for plenty of fresh-faced, young actors to fill the roles of it numerous doomed tributes, The Hunger Games proved a spectacular showcase for more than just its leads. Prior to this sci-fi adventure, Nigeria-born actor Dayo Okeniyi had only a couple of short films and a TV movie to his name. But after playing the brawny yet compassionate Thresh of District 11, Okeniyi scored roles in a string of features including James Ponsoldt's critically heralded The Spectacular Now, the recently wrapped horror-thriller Slew Hampshire, and the upcoming Ben Affleck-fronted crime drama Runner, Runner. Still, his next part could be his biggest yet. THR reports Okeniyi has entered into talks to join Universal Picture's remake of the 1981 drama Endless Love. Re-imagined by Gossip Girl writer Joshua Safran, the remake's script was given a polish pass by Country Strong writer-director Shana Feste, who is also set to helm.

Hollywood newcomer Dayo Okeniyi has been thrust into the spotlight as Thresh, one of the Tributes in "The Hunger Games" who is, as he puts it in his Twitter bio, "the reason Katniss makes it to Catching Fire No biggie." Uh, yeah, it's a biggie! And so is Dayo, who moved to Los Angeles just a few years ago to become an actor. Hey, he's always got a bachelor's degree in Visual Communications Design if this whole "being awesome" thing doesn't work out. We suspect it will, though.
Age: 23
Hometown: Dayo grew up in Lagos, Nigeria.
What He's Done: This is his first feature-length film!
What He's Doing Now: He plays Thresh, the other Tribute from District 11 along with Rue (Amandla Stenberg). We can't give much away about his character, but suffice it to say he's pretty darn tough, and Katniss thinks highly of him.

Some guys just know how to put together a trailer. The creators of the upcoming film Slew Hampshire definitely know what they're doing. Writer/director Flood Reed brings us a horrific vision of backwoods violence set to some kick-ass background music. In this 90-second trailer you get buckets of blood and the biggest collection of psycho eyes you'll ever see in such a short span of time!
Starring Dayo Okeniyi, Claire Dodin, Tyler Rice, Matt Hish, Shawn Thomas, Brian Allen and (in my opinion) one of the scariest guys in the horror business, Michael Todd Schneider of August Underground's Mordum fame. I'm sure the rest of the cast is brilliant as the trailer is very entertaining, but Schneider gives me chills. If you listen closely to the background song, you'll hear a line mentioning something about "…backwoods mutherfuckery…" That seems to pretty much sum things up.
Check out the trailer below,...

So, the last few days have shown us that writer Collins and director Ross decided to finally go ahead and cast black people in their movie (probably because everyone got pissed that they kept casting white people in all the ethnic roles), but now have finally moved on to casting white people again.
It's as if they cast the two blackest people whitey could find on short hand to quell the accusations of racism, and now they can go back to casting people like blond-haired, blue-eyed Elizabeth Banks in the other important roles.
District 12 tributes will be played by white people Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta), and the District 11 tributes will be played by black actors Dayo Okeniyi (Thresh) and Amandla Stenberg (Rue). Okeniyi will actually be in an upcoming horror film with the crappily amusing title Slew Hampshire (oops! Oh well. Even George Clooney was in Return to Horror High...

The producers of The Hunger Games have been busy fleshing out the cast of their film, and they’ve just announced that they found two relatively unknown actors to play two of the more well-loved characters, District 11 tributes Thresh and Rue. Newcomers Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg will portray the young tributes forced into the Hunger Games arena with Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence). Okeniyi only has one film to his name, a feature called Slew Hampshire which has not yet been released, and twelve-year-old Stenberg has a slightly longer resume (and quite the IMDb bio which is worth a read—we love that it includes the fact that she has ridden in the Goodyear blimp), as well as her own website, AmandlaStenberg.com.
Pretty safe to say that these two won’t be unknowns for long.

Any fans of The Hunger Games series of books? As I’m sure you know by now, a movie adaptation based on the best-selling trilogy of Ya novels, written by Suzanne Collins, is in the works, as the films cast gradually comes together.
I haven’t read the books, so I’m not at all equipped to discuss content or characters; but I can tell you that, about an hour ago, Lionsgate, the studio behind the project, announced, via the official Hunger Games Facebook page, that the characters named Thresh and Rue, also known as Tributes, have been cast, and both are played by relative newcomers, Dayo Okeniyi, and Amandla Stenberg – both pictured above.

Amandla Stenberg ("Colombiana") and Dayo Okeniyi ("Slew Hampshire") are set to play the characters of Rue and Thresh respectively in the upcoming film adaptation of "The Hunger Games" at Lionsgate.
In the books, the pair are the tributes from District 11 who've been sent to fight to the death in the titular games. Jennifer Lawrence stars as the fearless warrior Katniss while Josh Hutcherson is her love interest Peeta, both are the tributes from District 12.
Katniss teams up with the young but skilled Rue early on. Thresh is seen as one of the fiercest players in the game. Liam Hemsworth also stars, though his role is said to be minor in the first film.
Lionsgate has also posted a Facebook profile with a scorecard of who'll play the 'tributes' from the various districts. So far only two of the twelve are filled.

Director Gary Ross has just cast two important supporting roles in his adaptation of the Suzanne Collins book The Hunger Games. He'd already announced that Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence would play Katniss Everdeen [1], the main character, and that her main men - Peeta and Gale [2] - would be portrayed by Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth respectively. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. In the story, the government selects two children, called "tributes," from each of the 12 districts to compete in the titular games, a televised battle to the death. Katniss and Peeta are from District 12 and now the District 11 tributes Thresh, a big, burly male and Rue, a small but capable female, have been given faces. They'll be portrayed by newcomers Dayo Okeniyi and Amanda Stenberg. Read more after the jump. Entertainment Weekly [3] exclusively broke the casting news, which was then announced on the official Hunger Games Facebook page [4]. According to EW,...
