This movie is starting quiet slow with lots of annoying people, gets slightly intriguing in the middle part and suddenly fades out even slower into nothing.
Don't get me wrong, I see the efforts they've put into this and the movie features solid acting and good cinematography, but still, like others mentioned before: there is no likeable or even relatable character to find here. The plot is paper thin and doesn't do much. I guess in the end, this is more of a psychological behaviour study, that one has to sit through with a shake of the head the whole time. Narcissists do unrelatable things and that's about it. If that triggers you, stay well clear of this movie.
Ironically the movie starts with someone making a pitch for a movie script, which would have been much better, if executed right.
Don't waste your time and money, it's not worth it. In comparison to worse movies, I'd still give it a 4.5 to 5/10 for technical aspects and some good acting.

Laura Palmer (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is a hard charging executive and battling a divorce. She goes to meet her rich boss in Alaska where he appoints her the head of a non-profit subdivision. First, the Pope dies. More of the world's uber-rich die. There is some sort of viral disease which is killing the richest of the rich. Laura is surprised when her boss revalues her shares to be worth $900 million as the rich try to destroy their net worth.
This is a dumb high concept premise. It makes no sense, but I do try to go along with it. They do need to make the movie logic make sense around this stupid premise. It wouldn't be that hard to suppress one's net worth. One could simply donate it to the government. That's why I didn't get not going into quarantine. I do get the need to go to her daughter. So I let that go. Once the neighbors come for her, she should leave by herself. How could she put her daughter in danger? That's not reasonable. For the sake of the movie, she should go on the road alone.
Obviously, this is meant to be the reverse of the normal situation. I'm willing to let a lot of this go, but only up to a point. I do like the adventure thrills and the complicated Laura Palmer. I just don't like the non-sense in response to the non-sense premise.

The plot was interesting - but executed terribly.
The acting is pretty solid (apart from Lorraine Bracco who was truly horrible).
Cinematography and set are ok.
But, the problem is that it's simply not a good movie. It's boring, has uninteresting characters and a very awkward pacing.
I gave it a 4/10 even though maybe a lower rating would actually be more apt.

Hope they didn't spend more than 100 dollars to make this movie because that's about what it looks like. The writing is laughably bad, the acting feels phoned in, and the pacing is a complete disaster. Nothing good to say about it-no redeeming qualities, no interesting ideas, just a frustrating waste of time.
It honestly feels like a 13-year-old scribbled down a half-baked script in an hour, and the next day, someone decided, "Yep, let's film this." The dialogue is cringeworthy, the plot makes no sense, and whatever message they were trying to deliver gets lost in the sheer absurdity of it all.
I want my time back. Avoid this movie at all costs.

The story appears to me super weak and the more I started to think about it and the way the actors did act in the film, the more I wanted to stop this film.
Like why is it only about the rich, if you get rid of your money, how can a virus/ bacteria/ whatever know this in real time. Or in case its something different, how could it know that you put a pile of bundled dollars on fire.
It just doesnt make any sense to me. Same for the strange conclusions and actions the actors did on certain events.
I think this film is a waste of time and I cannot recommend it.
I could manage 1hr15 mins. So maybe its better afterwards.

A quite disturbing but unique scenario about the poisonous/mundane "nature" of wealth. The ending is really impressive portraying the desire to be rich as an incurable mental/behavioral problem that constitutes the source of all suffering in human societies... This film is not for those who look to be entertained; it is a thought provoking story with many sociopolitical and ethical implications that will impress those who appreciate substance instead of spectacle!!! Overall, acting is above average, cinematography is adequate, directing is sufficient. I watched this with some friends and it triggered a great conversation after watching it. I definitely recommend it!!!

One of the most stupid movies I ever seen in my life, it's so disappointing that I even decided to write it here to protect people from watching it. The main hero is such a narcissistic and stupid b**** that all the movie you're getting angry fromall of her actions and stupidity, she knows she does harm to her family but pretends that she doesn't. The whole movie is so irrational and illogical that every second you ask yourself "can it be even worse?" and yu get it! Again and again! These teeth are another story........During the whole movie I didn't have any feelings or emotions about any of it's characters....... I just want my time back.
That's right, i gave it an eight rating...
and all the low raters are the proof of how uncomfortable this movie made them...i believe that's part of the point...another part is, as one of the few reviewers said, it can be looked at as a comedy...that no matter what some people live through, they're still not happy...mary elizabeth winstead did a good job making us detest her...her character is balanced by her husband, rafe spall...
the movie has a few points to make and i feel it did a good job of it...including how the usually 'non sympathetic' become pathetic...i think that a lot of people don't want to see what humans might devolve into should a devastating global crisis occur.
From what DID occur, i don't really understand why infrastructure would fall apart. Except from fear and the destruction that would be projected from the fearful...after all, 99% of us would be left, right? And in the middle.
It was bleak. And an unpleasant experience to have to sit through...but i don't think it was ANY where as bad as many of these reviewers made it out to be...

The lead actress is brilliant, and most of the character actors are very good - great casting. The directing and filmography is first class and the production and editing and costumes and sound and sets are all very good. BUT, it takes more than that to make a great movie - it takes one thing first and above all others - great writing to create the framework of the movie. Hollywood needs to sack most of their writers - only a gender studies PHD would not realise the stupidity in so many parts of this movie. This could have been a great movie. IMO there is a new senior role needed in movie making - The Common Sense Manager. Someone who gets the movie before the Marketing people, and critically analysis the movie for serious plot holes and stupidity. Suspension of belief is a necessity - but in a movie like this, the audience is not the people who watch the Fast and Furious idiocy and actually think it is OK and like it.
Rich Flu claims to be about an infection that causes the most hated wealthy parasites die.
This is an intriguing thought: A virus that evens the playing field. An agent sent to right all wrongs.
Surely that is a relevant topic and fertile ground for a good movie? Not really.
For instance, consider the movies "heroine" Laura Palmer.
She is inexplicably vain, superficial and possessed by delusions of superiority She is spiteful to her ex about their daughter and yet she is a terrible mother. Her friends and her social sphere consist of detestable, cringe worthy, (yet very trendy) little poseurs whose personalities and faces inspire your punching reflex.
You have to give the makers of this film credit for creating a unique vehicle. A pandemic focuses its power on the super villains of our time. Yet you cannot find anyone in the film you would wish to survive.
Yes, some despicable oligarchs perish but there are absolutely no characters in this film to admire or side with. ALL of the characters on both sides are contemptible little piggies. There is no one at all to cheer for.
You can't wait for the "heroes" to start dying and the film to end thereby ending your misery.

Rich Flu starts of with a humorous and self aware twist that sets the scene for the ultimate goal of this movie. An entertaining commentary on the nature of materialism and modern society.
The characters and dialogue are excellent and believable in the context of the satire and Mary Elizabeth Winstead ( Playing Laura Palmer - yes, Laura Palmer, the name is not a coincidence or oversight by the authors.) does a fine job of playing a career focused rich person, who takes herself too seriously ( even if the film doesn't ).
And as the plot unfolds, that of a virus that only targets and kills rich people (It doesn't make sense, it's not supposed to - it's a Plot Device ) we watch as Laura Palmer's life unravels and she is forced onto a path of self discovery.
As a dark comedy and satire, this film made me chuckle. The pacing was fine for me and the suspense of how the story will unfold was palpable. And ultimately the pay off is worth it, as the film questions the worth of material possessions versus the worth of human beings and shines a light on the suffering of others ( Specifically the plight of refugees.)
Rich Flu is not an action movie, or a comedy, it's a darkly moving satire that gets to the heart of the inequalities of the modern world. In that respect it was entertaining and thought provoking and has numerous poignant twists.
I think many of the people reviewing this movie here on IMDB simply don't get this movie. I personally found it well worth the watch and so I can honestly recommend it.
An insightful, quirky and self aware satire on Wealth Vs Humanism that leaves you wondering if western civilization might have it's priorities skewed. Check it out!

Solid acting, interesting concept. MAGA people devoid of intellect will not understand the film but it exposed concepts about wealth, value, sharing, equality, desire and how we have arrived in a place where billionaires have hijacked media, political apparatus, justice and diverted us towards war, away from solving a metacrisis which is fueled by greed. Ignorance and callousness.
The father and son act of Rafe and Timothy Spall was superb as expected. The protagonist Mary Winstead was top notch and all of the the accompanying cast, without exception, provided a sense of reality.
The ending is poignant as it portrays the suffering of the destructive and viral mental behaviour that constitutes suffering in human society.

Oh my God. What's wrong with you people?!?
I really can't see the reason why this movie has a rating 8 out of 10!! And I'm really nervous, because based on that, I've just spent two hours of my life and 20 euros for NOTHING.
It was a really bad film, with very slow plot, absolutely pointless. Even if they wanted to pass a message or something, they FAILED.
There was too much information for nothing. And the only reason I'm spending my time to reach the 600 required characters for this review, is to save other people!! A lot of people were simply leaving before the end !! Greetings from Greece...!!

This movie was so irrational from the beginning, and I should've known by the drawn out and forced dialogues in the first 10-15 minutes that this is gonna be a drag... should've turned it off right there and then.
I think I made it about 60% into the movie hoping for something that makes sense to happen, but no, the plot just kept getting lost at sea, delving further and further into the irrational and boring insanity that this movie is all about. I skipped through the rest of the movie to see what finally happens and, as expected, it just kept getting more stupid and idiotic by every passing scene....
I don't understand who could possibly watch this movie and in their right mind give it a 10 star rating, because if this movie is a 10 then the actual classics that are in the top 100 movies could easily be rated 20 out of 10.
Save yourself the time and watch something else, as ANYTHING will be more entertaining, thought provoking or funny than this. Literally anything, even Sharknado series of movies (which are Godawful to begin with).

It's impossible to watch because the cameraman shakes the whole movie as if he hates it. It doesn't add life, dynamics, or presence, it just hurts. Please, don't make movies like that! I suffer from 24 frames per second stroboscopic effect, and from bokeh, when everything in the frame is blurred except the actor and there's nothing to look at. It's all annoying, but familiar. But don't shake!
There are a lot of ways to get rid of shaking now. So the creators of the movie did it on purpose. And the purpose for which they did it doesn't work.
A sincere request to all filmmakers - Please make the smoothest movies possible.

This movie could've been a whole lot better. But they somehow lost their point in different sections of the movie and it is in different sections. They don't always connect properly and in the end it just shows how selfish the main character is after all they've been through maybe that's the point I'm not sure. It starts off really good and not to have spoilers but after the first 15 minutes you can already see there are problems. You get the annoying rich people who are freaking out they're gonna die and giving away their money so they don't go straight to a whole other thing of everything blowing up it just doesn't work well together.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead was the best part of it . She plays a Hollywood exec who goes from living her best life to hiding in fear just because she has money , a quite a lot of it and more of it after some time due to events happening in the war.
The idea behind the movie is about a mysterious disease which starts killing only the super-rich, and suddenly people are desperate to get rid of their wealth. It puts "money solves everything" mindset to question. The tension builds up slowly but keeps you hooked, I Would say it is kind of like The Purge meets Contagion.
Visually, the movie looks great ,now this is not a low budget movie. You can tell it had a good budget. But not everything lands - some parts felt a bit over the top or confusing (like how the virus actually works? Still not sure). But the whole "what if money made you a target" concept is fresh and kinda chilling.
Overall, it's not your average movie night pick, but if you're into dark, thought-provoking thrillers with a dystopian vibe, definitely worth a watch. And its ending puts you in a cliffhanger . Gave me a lot to think about after the movie was over.

I found this movie quite thought provoking for a number of reasons. The themes of this move are many with commentary on wealth and its role in the fabric of society, as well as narratives on family and societal structures, survival instinct and self preservation.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead puts a solid performance and I'm lead to believe this is director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia's first English language movie.
It's a well put together film with a solid cast and which raises more questions than it answers.
We get no hint as to the source of the virus that is wiping out the rich, nor much of a look at who is left running society. Instead we get a survival story of a dysfunctional family become refugees trying to keep safe.
The ending was apt and without ruining my chances of a spoiler free review, does highlight the very obvious flaws in the human condition that have blighted societies throughout history.

The acting seems SO fake, and the dialogue and sound feels like very poor dubbing. This movie could have been good if someone else made it. But the very fake acting and unlikeable characters destroys everything that could have been good with this movie. I have seen this in other movies too lately. What are they doing? Recording ALL dialogue after the movie is finished? Because most of the actors can't speak proper English? In that case it would have been so much better with original language and subtitles (although I hate subtitles...). I gave this 3 stars because they made me watch it cause of the storyline. But really, don't waste your time on earth watching this garbage.

So stop and think for just a minute about the premise of this movie (viewing isn't even required for this thought exercise).
A virus that kills wealthy people only. Somehow the virus needs to know that the person it is attacking (that is what a virus does) possesses wealth. How does it do that? Does it log into your banking? Hack into your brokerage account? And how can it tell where to draw the line? Does it kill the new baby of a rich person? I mean technically that baby is poor and owes nothing, but one day they could inherit riches beyond measure, right? So how does it do this?
This is a lefty/commie fan fiction fantasy so ridiculous a child would think it's dumb. Don't waste your time on such stupidity masquerading as entertainment.

This movie could have been a cool, dystopian sci fi movie, but I think they didn't have the budget. Sci Fi movies are very expensive to make.
The story is about how the life of a film executive unravels when a pandemic breaks out. The first victims are apparently rich people, so there seems to be a consensus that the disease is somehow targeting the rich. This could have been a great satire/sci fi movie but the story just doesn't work. The script is absolutely atrocious, meandering, mindless drivel. Who wrote this crap? The plot structure and the pacing is completely off, where are the meaty dialogues and character development?
