Quotes

Gerhard Steidl: This is a lost knowledge that books should smell good. In the printing industry of today they print all four color process and on top of it they run a dispersion varnish. And the dispersion which is covering all the paper and the ink kills smell, yes what I don't do. Greatest book maker of 21th century so far.

I saw this movie on netflix, i guess it is not easy to find it, but when you do find it, it is well worth your time. Steidl is a phenomenal book publisher, his attention to details are great, starting from size, paper, till the smell of the book. Every book that he publishes is different. If you buy a Steidl book, you know that it is unique and well worth your money, especially, knowing that after two years first edition will be worth much more. Steidl is like a book doctor, he dresses in his white "doctor" costume, he is very precise and it is all about ordinary, he works without stopping and he is devoted to what he is doing for 100% and more, and you can see all that in this movie. All this small details that make him human.

P.S pay attention to the ink spill, i found it as a wonderful detail.
