Trivia

Once again, Hitler's political career is described misleadingly. His election campaign in 1932 is mentioned along with the fact that he did attract votes; however, he actually lost that presidential election to incumbent President Paul von Hindenburg. Hindenburg subsequently appointed Hitler to the separate office of chancellor. (A contemporary understatedly described this appointment as unnecessary.) When Hindenburg died in office, Hitler seized power and declared himself president as well as chancellor. He then called for another election in which he was the only candidate on the ballot. Hitler never won a fair national election. (Being both president and chancellor was not new, however, as Otto von Bismark had held both offices half a century earlier.) See more »
