Storyline

The shuttle lands on Novus and the recon team explores a bunker where they find an extensive library and archive that cataloged virtually all of the activities of the original colonists. The kinos and other recordings reveal the key events in their alternate lives - people die, they marry and they have children. For some however, knowing what happened to their alternate selves raises doubts in their minds as to their own future. The planet is clearly not stable and earthquakes are getting more severe forcing an immediate departure. They do learn that the population managed to evacuate Novus successfully. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

Archive Wray mentions the new school while winding yarn on some sort of stick. The stick is a drop spindle, a 10,000 year old tech for twisting loose fibers into thread or yarn. The Fort Langely National Historic Site, where these scenes were filmed, has a resident spinner/weaver who regularly demonstrates both drop spindles and spinning wheels. See more »

Back to the Frontier
5 June 2011 | by C.J.-4See all my reviews

This is an extremely good episode - neither action-filled nor ground-breaking, but excellent non-the-less. Faced with starting life with nothing but their hands and the clothes on their back, they created a frontier village. No, you can't build hdro-electricity generators within months without mines to mine the ore, smelting plants to extract copper and tools to work with. Faced with the same dilemma, I would be proud to have achieved the same in such a short space of time and I'm an engineer. We saw an alternate life for these key characters - filled with adversity, hope and achievement. This season has upped its game and, despite the continuous omission of humour that would have ensured its success in the ratings, it's still very good science fiction.
