As the boss (Willem Dafoe) of a Chicago-based headhunter prepares to retire, Dane Jensen (Gerard Butler), who works at the Blackridge Recruiting agency arranging jobs for engineers, vies to achieve his longtime goal of taking over the company going head-to-head with his ambitious rival, Lynn Vogel (Alison Brie). However, Dane's 10-year-old son, Ryan (Maxwell Jenkins), is suddenly diagnosed with cancer and his professional priorities at work and personal priorities at home begin to clash with one another.

On September 14, 2016 at the screening of the Headhunter's Calling at the Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto Canada, Gerard Butler (Dane Jensen) stated in an interview on the red carpet that he had so much fun in Canada working on this project that he would absolutely love to live in Toronto again. Growing up Gerard Butler used to spend summers as a teenager in T.O. when he worked for his father, who was divorced from his mother back across the pond, at a souvenir shop on Queen's Quay. See more
