The Duke City Shootout is a filmmaking competition where six winning screenwriters are given seven days - four to shoot (under union rules) and three to edit - to bring their pages to the screen. Facing multiple stunts and special effects, we decided on the third day of shooting to include a "homage" to the other five films we were competing against. The screenplay was quickly adapted to include the maladies we understood to be in each of the other films, for example a girl dressed up like Princess Leia getting hit by a car for one film and five bounty hunters found dead in a bar in another film. Each series of lines were received with laughter and praise at the initial competitive screening.
