After building up a huge following on the small screen, Marvel are preparing to unleash their television version of The Avengers with the superhero team-up The Defenders, which see’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist come together to fight a seeimingly insurmountable evil in New York City and sees them lock horns with the legendary Sigourney Weaver who takes on villain duties in the mini-series.
We were lucky enough to speak to the head showrunner of the show Marco Ramirez, who was also the lead runner of Daredevil and chat all things Netflix and Marvel.
“It (The Defenders) was always something that was part of the plan and when Netflix and Marvel signed the deal it was these our shows and then The Defenders, which was like this ‘superbowl’.” said Ramirez when we spoke about the hugely anticipated show, saying that there was no...

We’ve always been told that Marvel’s TV shows are set within the realms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that unites their movies. Mostly, though, this just means that the likes of Daredevil and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. can namecheck Iron Man or the Hulk once in a while. The shows don’t ever crossover themselves, though. For instance, Phil Coulson isn’t going to turn up on, say, Jessica Jones anytime soon.
Intriguingly, though, some new information suggests that the latest series to join Marvel’s TV output, Hulu’s Runaways, will be connected to the Netflix corner of the McU. If true, this will be the first time that Marvel series that air on different networks have crossed over – even in just a namedropping sense – in a major way.

As we wait for the upcoming animated series adaptation of the Nintendo classic Castlevainia to be released, Netflix has shared the theme song for us to listen to. It's a haunting and eerie musical score that echo's the tone of the original Nes game music.
The score is called "The True Science" and it was created by composer Trevor Morris. He also did the music for the Marvel series Iron Fist. When talking to Nerdist about the working on the project, he said:
“Being asked to contribute to Castlevania was such a great call to get. As a composer it’s just a cool, colorful and interesting world to get into, and provides endless inspiration for music. It was just such a fun and cool project to work on, I could score Castlevania for years and years."

Some great new promo art has surfaced for Netflix's new animated Castlevania series. What I love about this is that it was awesomely inspired by the original Nes box art, only it's done in the same animation style as the game. The art features the main character Simon Belmont wielding his whip as he faces the castle in the distance, with Dracula looking over the sinister castle.
Last week the first trailer was released for the new series, which you need to check out here in case you missed it. This show looks like it's going to be so cool and the trailer definitely got me excited for it. I was such a huge fan of the original game and it's so fun to see this new series call back to that game that many of us grew up playing.

Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming Castlevania animated series and it's pretty exciting! This is the same series that's being developed by Adi Shankar (Dredd) and Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents, Adventure Time). As you'll see, the show went with a beautiful anime art style to tell the story, which works perfectly for the property. It's been said that the series has a Game of Thrones vibe to it and it certainly shows in this trailer.
I'm a big fan of the Castlevania video game franchise and I can't wait to watch this cool looking series! Here's the synopsis:

Update: The official Runaways social media accounts released the first official poster for the show. Check it out below!
Original Story:
Marvel is continuing in its slow domination of the universe. It started modestly enough in 2008 with Iron Man, and has since taken over the cinemas in a huge way. Similarly, they’ve stretched their reach to the TV front, starting with networks like ABC. Soon after, it expanded to Netflix with shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, among others (all of which will culminate in a Defenders series later this year). More recently, Marvel has turned to more specific targeting of their deomographics, with shows like Cloak and Dagger and New Warriors landing on the “tween” channel Freeform.

Yesterday Netflix announced that they will be releasing an animated series adaptation of the hit video game Castlevania later this year. As it turns out, this is indeed the animated project that Adi Shankar (Dredd) and Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents, Adventure Time) were working on. So, it looks like the R-rated ultra-violent and dark take on the franchise is still in play.
Thanks to Shankar, we now have an official synopsis to share with you offering details on the story, and the producer also offers up some thoughts on what he's got cooking and boldly exclaims that Castlevania "will end the streak and be the western world’s first good video game adaptation." Here's the synopsis:

Marvel has had an interesting run with their TV shows. While we had our doubts about how everything would turn out when it became clear that they’d have properties spread out across separate networks and streaming services, it all seems to be coming together. Rather than horde their franchises to the same safe, Disney-owned entity, they divvied up their properties based on demographic. The more general stuff would go on ABC, the adult stuff on Netflix, and the teen stuff would go on other services, like Hulu.
Their first foray into the more teen-centric space with Marvel’s Runaways. Don’t recognize the name? No worries. The I.P. has nowhere near the recognizability of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the like, but we’ve seen Marvel work wonders with relatively obscure characters and properties. At the end of the day, that red Marvel logo and overall execution...

The creators of Marvel's Luke Cage discuss how they approached bringing the character to life on the small screen...
Luke Cage, Shades, Cottonmouth, or Mariah Dillard aren't the most high profile characters in the Marvel Universe, but most of us can remember a time when Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America were still considered second-stringers behind Spider-Man and the X-Men.
Marvel's Netflix shows have been more than just mature, ambitious attempts at making the first genuine prestige superhero TV dramas, they're also about making household names of some of their lesser-known characters (and past McU gambles like Guardians Of The Galaxy have certainly proved they're more than capable of shining a spotlight on just about anyone).

Not only does Steve Orlando’s Midnighter comic star a gay man, it tells blunt, sex-positive stories about that character. The main cast of characters in the upcoming main Avengers comic All-New, All-Different Avengers has only one white dude.
While there is still a lot of work on the road to a utopia of complete social justice, there is a trend of progressivism in some of today’s superhero comics that is impossible to ignore.
“There’s certainly a long way to go, but [the comics industry] is moving in the right direction,” said Orlando via phone interview on Oct. 23.
Books like Batgirl and Cyborg from DC Comics as well as Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Ms. Marvel down the lane at Marvel coalesce to paint a picture of superhero comics that not only includes a solid focus on minority and women characters, but also features progressive themes concerning identity, racial justice, body image and more.

Since Daredevil made its debut on Netflix last Friday on April 10, there has been a ton of buzz surrounding that Marvel property. That buzz and optimism bodes well for the rest of the studio's Netlix slate, because now people are looking forward to them. The next one on deck, as they prepare for a The Defenders crossover event, is Jessica Jones. That series is currently in production, and we now have our first look at some of the characters in play.
Below, you'll see Mike Colter as Luke Cage, riding a motorcycle with Jessica Jones herself, Krysten Ritter.

Marvel has already taken its ambitious shared-universe model and expanded it from film to television (and entered the realm of streaming with Daredevil‘s Netflix debut this weekend). Now, however, they may begin experimenting with a new medium altogether: animation. According to Marvel’s Vice President of Animation Development and Production, Cort Lane, animated tie-ins to the larger McU may be on the horizon.
During Emerald City Comic-Con last weekend, Lane was asked by a fan about the possibility of seeing animated projects set in the McU. Lane’s response was a non-committal but promising statement saying that while he couldn’t announce anything, “things are in the works.”
What “things” Lane is alluding to are a complete mystery, but he did point toward Daredevil as a “proof-of-concept” for projects that tie into the larger world that Marvel has created. On one hand, it makes complete sense that the studio...

The Internet Movie Database got the jump on Costa Ronin joining ABC's Agent Carter miniseries earlier this week, but Marvel has now confirmed the casting. The Australian actor will indeed be playing a younger Anton Vanko, whose partnership and fallout with Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) was first explored in Iron Man 2. Anyhow, expect Agent Carter to premiere on January 6, 2015. "Fans have wanted to learn more about Anton Vanko since he was first mentioned in 2010's Iron Man 2 and we're happy to deliver with Costa's terrific performance in Agent Carter," said Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television. "Marvel's Agent Carter," starring Captain America's Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert Ssr (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going...

“Twenty five years. Makes a girl think.” So said Marilyn Monroe in Some Like it Hot, and she was rarely wrong about anything, except maybe her taste in husbands. Cinematically, an awful lot can happen in 25 years and Hollywood as we know it today, emerged from seismic developments that took place a quarter of a century ago. 1989 was a game-changer; an absolutely pivotal year in the evolution of 21st century Hollywood. Chances are, whatever you watch at the multiplex this weekend will be genetically traceable to that dark, iPad-less, internetless, Jedwardless time. For those of us who are not going gentle into the dark night of their forties, the specific date of this Big Bang was August 11th 1989. That was the day that Batman finally opened in the UK.

Well, Well, here we are. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the number one movie in America and the shockwave it’s third act sends through the unified universe is affecting Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. It’s unprecedented for something to happen at this level, though it has been previously discussed, specifically when Ron Howard was pitching his grand Dark Tower adaptation as three movies with TV series in-between to fill in the narrative gaps provided by flashback.
While Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a fine film, the most interesting parts of it, culturally, are it’s place in the world’s biggest megafranchise. Yes, poor Harry Potter was dethroned by Captain America, poor Potter who kicked the sh*t out of James Bond and vaulted over Star Wars.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could use an annoying recurring character that can turn up every now and then to stir up trouble. I’m sure there are many characters the series could choose from, what with the Marvel comic book universe being filled to the very edges of the panels with jerks trying to mess up the superheroes. For such a character, Marvel looked inward at who they already had on the payroll. They came back out having given the gig to Adrian Pasdar, an actor with plenty of experience with the world of superheroes. And you’ll never guess whom he is playing.
Pasdar first got my attention when he played Nathan Petrelli, a man who could fly and was constantly walking the line between being a hero or a villain, on NBC’s Heroes. These days you can hear him voicing Iron Man on Marvel’s Avengers Assemble.

In anticipation of the December 3rd release of Marvel’s Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Disney has released a slide show of images to tease the titanic team-up.
In Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United, Iron Man and Hulk team up to save the Earth from its greatest threat yet! Featuring the voices of Adrian Pasdar (Heroes, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man) as Iron Man and Fred Tatasciore (Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man) as Hulk.

Here's a new set of photos from Marvel's upcoming animated film, Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United. As you'll see, some of them feature Hulk wearing his own armor. Last week the studio released the first action-packed clip from the film, which you can watch here. I haven't been impressed with anything that I've seen from this so far, and according to a lot of the comments I've seen, it doesn't look like the fans are too happy with the movie either.
In this all-new, action-packed story, Iron Man and Hulk face off against Zzzax as well as a pack of Wendigos and the deadly Abomination. Adrian Pasdar (Heroes) voices Iron Man and Fred Tatasciore (Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.) will provide the voice for Banner and the Hulk. Dee Bradley Baker (Klaus the fish from American Dad!) will do the voice of Zzzax.

Entertainment Geekly is a weekly column that examines contemporary pop culture through a geek lens and simultaneously examines contemporary geek culture through a pop lens. So many lenses!

Marvel’s cinematic Avengers will be joined on the smaller screen by The Defenders, the culmination of four series just commissioned by Netflix. Luke Cage, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist were announced this by Variety morning as each receiving thirteen episode commitments. The linking device is that all four series will be set in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen, which, in the comics, has been Daredevil’s base of operations dating back to the 1970s.
This rumored set of series was revealed without naming producers, writers, showrunners or casting but would be expected to debut some time in 2014. The announcement did not acknowledge if this quartet of series will be set in the same reality as the film series. If so, it would also connect these shows to ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel has released the first action-packed clip from Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United. It gives us a fun sequence with the two superheroes beating the hell out of each other. I'm not really a big fan of the CG animation in the film, but that doesn't mean it will be a bad movie. I'll give it a shot, though!

We all know Marvel rule the superhero box office at the moment – this year Iron Man 3 did really well and Thor 2 looks like it’ll be another hit for the studio, while their TV series, Agents of Shield, had a huge number of viewers tuning in when the pilot episode aired recently. And while Marvel are also the biggest comics publisher in the world, the difference between Marvel comics readers and Marvel movie/TV viewers is sizeable to say the least. So how to nab some of the fans of the movies and get them into their printed product, who don’t want to mess around with the monthly single issues? Marvel Original Graphic Novels seem to be the answer – self-contained, book-length stories that are written for this format rather than monthly issues, that don’t require an extensive knowledge of comics continuity and star the familiar movie characters.

Here we go again guys: another Marvel Event. Ready? Let’s go – Readers Assemble!
Not willing to let the dust settle from their last “epic” Event, Age of Ultron, which ended just a few weeks ago, Marvel have kicked off their latest end-of-the-world, cosmos-spanning, life-or-death-stakes Event, Infinity, starring everybody’s favourite after-credits cameo, Thanos. Avengers and New Avengers scribe Jonathan Hickman is leading the charge this time around, his first Event title in the driver’s seat, and, though I’m wary of Marvel Events, Infinity isn’t bad. Well, it’s more complex than that – but then this is a Jonathan Hickman comic!
First off, I’m pleased to say Hickman does a fine job of setting the Event up in this first, bumper-sized issue. We know who the heroes and villains are, we know the stakes, we know the story, it’s all nicely established by Hickman through a series of mini-chapters.

Usually not-yet-debuted TV shows struggle to generate heavy interest at Comic-Con. That won’t be a problem for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which probably has more buzz going into its first season than any show since AMC’s The Walking Dead. After all, it’s Marvel characters plus writer-director Joss Whedon plus a hit film — it’s almost like it was brainstormed by Comic-Con fans camping in line at Hall H last year.
So though ABC is being very secretive about their plans and the pilot itself, here’s what we’ve dug up so far about the show and next week’s panel.

While I would much rather be reading new information regarding Joss Whedon’s Avengers sequel, I suppose I’m content learning new things about Disney Xd’s new animated series, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble. You can tell the series is taking a lot of cues from The Avengers film, what with the cast including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow, the same super heroes we watched fight aliens in New York last summer. But Avengers Assemble has a whole lot more freedom to add more heroes from the Marvel universe and will do so early in the show’s run. Our first new member will be Falcon and, from the look of things, his first day isn’t an easy one.

Disney Xd has released TV spots for its two new Marvel-based animated series, and it’s pretty clear that they will be rather different from each other in tone, if not in animation styles. While many of us mourn the passing of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, it’s time to check out the newest version of the assemblage:
TV Spot: Marvel’s Avengers Assemble – Coming July 7
And now for something (almost) completely different… While the Marvel’s Avengers Assemble marketing is heaving towards fans of the movie, you know they’re going for another thing entirely when the Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. spot starts out “What’s more fun than one Hulk? Five Hulks!” Let’s not forget, though that hulk features the voice of Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, Angel) as She-Hulk. So there’s that.

Iron Man #11, Kieron Gillen, Dale Eaglesham, Marvel Comics
“The Secret Origin of Tony Stark” continues with more concrete revelations than previous instalments, some truly rocking the foundation of Iron Man’s identity. #11 sees Stark still held prisoner – and unwilling bodyguard against some unremarkable space robots – by the not wholly unlikable 451 on a course for destinations unknown while we flit back in time to witness the mysterious pre-natal care and universe-altering burden given to Tony by the same conniving ‘bot.
As with many flashback narratives in comics, past events are streamlined to the nth degree so that the only events we see are solely plot-relevant and so set pieces like this issue’s attack on Mummy and Daddy Stark’s home begin to feel more than a little contrived. That said, the art’s still subtly cinematic (other than a rather dull space fricassee early in the issue...
