Ethan says that "shale and brick are the most common constituents of clay. This is backwards. Clays are hydrous aluminium phyllosylicates, very fine sediments (not rocks) formed from weathered minerals like feldspar. Clay is used to make bricks. Clay plus tiny particles of calcite or quartz, pressed and heated to form a sedimentary rock, is shale. See more
