Storyline

The vampires Louise, Charlotte and Nora arrive in Berlin after attacking the passengers and crew of an airplane in a flight to Paris. The leader Louise has been looking for centuries for her missed love and Charlotte misses her daughter that she saw in 1923 for the last time. Meanwhile, the smalltime pickpocket Lena steals a Russian mobster and is chased by Detective Tom. When Lena goes to a nightclub, the lesbian Louise believes that Lena is the love of her life and transforms her into a vampire. Lena initially feels lost with the transformation, but sooner she joins the trio of vampires in their nightlife. When the pack of vampires attacks a group of criminals, the police department investigates the case and hunts the women without knowing the risks that they are taking. Meanwhile the lonely Tom and the Lena fall in love with each other; but the unrequited love of Louise for Lena jeopardizes the couple. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Trivia

The song "Au clair de la lune" that Charlotte sings and is used as her theme is the first song ever recorded and also the first sound ever recorded. It was recorded in 1860 by Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville. See more »

Goofs

Charlotte intends to kill herself by exposing to sunlight. She locks Louise and Lena inside so they don't stop her. Louise bangs the door so hard we see it bending from the outside. But when we see her again banging the door from inside, it is intact. See more »

Quotes

Louise: If you knew deep within your soul that there was only one person in the world meant just for you, the only person who could make you happy, what would you give up? What would you sacrifice? And how long would you search for them? How many centuries? And if you ever did find them, then what? Could you ever let them go? Wouldn't you grab onto them with both arms... and never... never let them go?

Unrequited (Lesbian) Love

"Wir Sind die Nacht" is a pleasant vampire movie, with action, humor, drama and romance. The beginning is a sort of tribute to Nosferatu and Dracula of Bram Stoker, with the female vampires killing the passengers and crew of an airplane the same way Nosferatu and Dracula do with the crew of the ship that arrives at Wismar without any living soul.

The plot is very well constructed and actually dramatic and mature, on the contrary of most of the American films of the genre. The actresses are very beautiful and talented; the cinematography and the camera work are magnificent and in the end, I loved this film. My vote is seven.

Title (Brazil): "As Donas da Noite" ("The Owners of the Night")

Note: On 26 January 2015, I saw this movie again on Blu-Ray.
