- Debra is literally grilling potential nannies to help Dexter with Harrison. A woman named Sonya seems to hit it off with Harrison and Dexter says he want to hire her.
Dexter does some research on Boyd and is planning to make him his next victim.
The department is watching ATM surveliance video of Francisco Alvaro, the dead man who they suspect decapitated his wife then shooting himelf in the head with a shotgun. Two hours before his death he had trouble entering the correct pin number 0371 . Debra notices Angel and Masuka had been in a bar fight. Debra isn't so sure about Francisco killing his wife and wants to re-canvas the area with Angel.
Dexter and Harrison meet with a grief counselor. She tells him that at 10 months there is "no chance" Harrison could have been affected by seeing Rita's murder.
With nobody in the Alvaros' neighborhood talking, Angel suggests bringing in Officer Manzon, the cop who told Debra about Santa Muerte.
Dexter sets up an "accidental" encounter with Boyd at a restaurant. Boyd says he likes his job doing dead animal pick-up and tells Dexter there might be an opening.
Dexter picks an abandoned tourist welcoming center as his kill location. Harry shows up to question the wisdom of his planning to kill during daylight.
Debra and Manzon meet with a neighborhood vendor who sells religious items. He doesn't tell them anything and on the way out Manzon thinks Debra being there might have been a problem. Debra is getting increasingly frustrated by the lack of cooperation in the neighborhood.
Dexter returns home and finds Sonya and Harrison missing. Sonya doesn't answer her cell' phone and he starts to panic. She walks in the door from walking him to sleep and points out she left a note on the fridge. Dexter relaxes.
After Angel avoided telling Maria the cause of the bar fight, Masuka accidentally spills the beans that she was involved. He tells her what Lopez had said and she asks him to refrain from fighting in the future.
Dexter tells Debra that Cody is doing well with his grandparents but that Astor is refusing to speak with him. She suggests returning to routine might help him deal with his tragedy.
Before a ride-along with Boyd, Dexter stiffs a fake dead animal call at a certain location near the kill room.
Boyd is listening to the self-help guy, Jordan Chase. Boyd notices Dexter's ring finger tan and assumes he is working through a divorce. He thinks Dexter would benefit from listening to Chase's "Take It Now" CD.
Manzon's guy told her that two 30-something "criminal types" from Venezuela were the ones who purchased the religious icon. Debra wonders if perhaps Alvaros was freaked out at the ATM because his wife was being held for a cash ransom.
After several hours Dexter's phony call finally gets relayed to Boyd.
Debra and Manzon return to her source's store and find him decapitated and the head displayed in a very Santa Muerta-esque fashion.
At the supposed location of the dead alligator Dexter injects Boyd in the neck. But Boyd reflexively whirls and shoots Dexter in the stomach with a dart from his tranc gun.
Dexter comes to in an ambulance being driven along with Boyd to the hospital. A passerby saw them on the ground and dialed 911. Dexter says Boyd must have hit him by accident when trying to shoot the animal, while curiously Boyd tells the paramedic he must have simply passed out, and Dexter surmises that no one found the syringe with hwich he injected Boyd.
Inside the hospital's emergency room area Boyd gives Dexter furious looks from his gurney. Separated only by a few curtains Boyd tells the doctor nothing unusual. Once he is left alone he removes his tubes and wire leads, and grabs a sharp knife from the tray. He goes looking for Dexter but finds Dexter's bed empty as well. Boyd looks around and casually walks out of the hospital, unnoticed by any of the emergency room staff.
Mazon feels guilty that her source was murdered.
Quinn gets a call from the feds about the Kyle Butler sketches. He wants to speak with the Mitchell family with the idea of showing them a "sensitive" photo.
Boyd returns home. He hears a noise and grabs a revolver from a kitchen drawer. Dexter turns on the self-help CD to distract Boyd and is able to sneak up behind his target victim and give him another injection. Dexter calls Sonya, who tells him she thinks Harrison just took his first step. She sends him a photo, 'phone to 'phone.
Internal Affairs speaks with Maria about an impending investigation into the Angel-Lopez fight. Lopez recently collapsed with internal bleeding and he is now pressing charges. Since Angel reportedly kicked Lopez while he was down he could face jail time.
Rather than transport Boyd out to the prepared kill room, Dexter improvises and ties up him in his own basement. Boyd claims all the women he killed were suffering and he had to put them out of their misery. Dexter tells Boyd that killing him will be the start of his own healing before plunging a huge knife into his chest. "Nothing feels different," Dexter thinks to himself before hearing a noise. It is one of Boyd's future victims he had tied up in the attic.
"She saw everything," he says "She saw me!"
