Paramount's "Rom: Spaceknight"

Screenwiter Zak Penn ("Ready Player One") continues developing a screenplay adaptation of the Hasbro (Parker Bros) toy and subsequent Marvel Comics/Idw series "Rom: Spaceknight", for Allspark Pictures and Paramount:

"...the first comic book series follows 'Rom', an earthbound 'cyborg' from a utopian society on the planet 'Galador', his defeat by the invading 'Dire Wraith' alien race and the continuation of their battle on Earth.

"Unlike the technologically advanced 'Galadorian' civilization, the Dire Wraiths rely primarily on dark magic and their power to change their appearance.

"Years before Rom's arrival on Earth, Galador is threatened by a fleet of ships manned by the Dire Wraiths. Galador's ruler, the 'Prime Director', calls for volunteers to be transformed into 'Spaceknights', cyborg warriors that can defend the planet from the invaders.

"The volunteers are promised that their 'humanity' (body parts) would be removed to accommodate 'bionic' armor. then preserved and restored after the danger was over.

Lena Waithe on ‘Atlanta’s’ Emmys Snub, More ‘Master of None’ and the Moment She’ll ‘Never Forget’
Lena Waithe shot to fame with the groundbreaking “Thanksgiving” installment of “Master of None,” for which she won an Emmy Award for best writing for a comedy series.

That was just the beginning of what the multi-hyphenate — and Variety Power of Women honoree — wants to create. “I want to be bigger than one episode of television,” says Waithe. “I don’t think people have really gotten a sense of even what I have to offer yet.”

Indeed after a year that saw the launch of her Showtime drama “The Chi” alongside an acting role in Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” her slate is now jam-packed with projects behind and in front of the camera: writing scripts for “Boomerang” for Bet (which she’s producing with Halle Berry), casting the film “Queen and Slim,” which will be directed by Melina Matsoukas, prepping season two of “The Chi,” launching “Them,” a

Ben Mendelsohn Takes a Welcome Break From Playing Bad Guys in ‘The Land of Steady Habits’ (Video)
Ben Mendelsohn has played a recent streak of supervillains in movies like “Rogue One,” “Ready Player One” and the upcoming “Robin Hood” and “Captain Marvel.” But in Nicole Holofcener’s “The Land of Steady Habits,” he gets his chance at playing a different type of bad guy: a person who has left his wife, his job and has a broken relationship with his teenage son, leaving him in something of a mid-life crisis.

Mendelsohn likened starring in an indie drama versus a massive blockbuster to performing different styles of music as a violinist in an orchestra.

“If I transpose myself into a violinist, there are certain films you go and do. I’ve got a very definite rhythm to them, there’s a specific set to them.” Mendelsohn told TheWrap founder and CEO Sharon Waxman at the Toronto International Film Festival. “And if I’m playing something like Nicole’s film,
